Re: Any machine manufacturers known for generally great service?

Joe,

I have had the same experience as you have.? Carl has been great for Felder and SCM so far has been great also with Sam.? I called Felder a few times for support and they were good.? Shipping, not so good.

For SCM, the call to support was great and they followed up.? SCM is launching an on-line system for owners to be able to order parts etc on June 1st.

Any machine manufacturers known for generally great service?

I¡¯m at a point in life where customer service/support is a priority. We all see horror stories here on terrible support. I personally have had great phone support from Carl my Felder rep. I¡¯ve also had shockingly good help from SCMI on a 1975 jointer. ?On the other hand a have a friend who has had horrible support k. Canada from both SCMI and Martin. Thoughts?

I use them on drawers and doors, and let me know what you find. I think I got my last batch from Hafele and they have worked well on the doors, but for some reason they keep sliding around and falling off on drawers.

?You're looking at the wrong size the 2632 is giant, 1.it's way to big for maneuvering inside a shop
2.even when collapsed it's still tall, and climbing up and down will be tiring
3.wieghs 5000lbs so transportation can be difficult?

Look for 19ft lift, it'll be much better for your use especially when your cieling is 13.5ft.

Keep in mind 26ft lift gives you 30ft working height with you on it and 19ft will give you 24ft working height

I owned before a few genie and skyjack 19ft and 26ft, now for shop maintenance I have small 12ft scissor lift that is perfect for my 15' cieling

I'd go with used over new, these are pretty simple machines and they have good phone technical support.
Usually the machines that the big company's liquidating to auctions look like shit but in a fair mechanical condition because they have inspections every 3 months

3M bumpers tend to last the longest.

If you want a more permanent solution you¡¯ll need bumpers with a tenon that mount in a 3 or 5 mm hole. They are more expensive and time consuming to install though.

sliding table not traveling straight.

Hey!

2022 felder k740 with 2800mm sliding table (xroll)
I need som help to figure out what to do about my sliding table.

I¡¯ve always gotten a curved cut when straight line ripping sheet goods. But I always thought it was my fault for not doing it properly.

But today I tried to measure the distance from the t slot to the blade at various points of sliding table.

made up a jigg til securely hold a piece of mdf to the t slot, I then cute said piece at the very end of the sliding table, then used that as a gauge to se if it would stay the same distance from the blade along the whole travel of sliding table.?

then I noticed it, it¡¯s about 0.6mm closer to the blade at the middle position, and about 0,4mm further away at the end..

I know the sliding is supposed to toe outward through out it¡¯s travel, and 0,4mm toe out along 2800mm seem good to me.?

my problem is that dip toward the blade in middle position¡?

making a slight 0,6mm curv in the center of my workpieces.

is there a way to adjust this?

I also cut some Colorfin plywood. It is notorious for chipping out very easily. The Felder dado set cut it perfectly with no chipout on the face. The dado also measures 7mm H x 12mm W

For what it's worth, the bat ears are barely perceptible. Like Mac said get out your microscope.?This next photo was taken from my eye level with the pieces on the sliding table. You can't see them at all.

Re: Shaper cutters to replace router bits #shapertools

Hi, I find the following for the 125mm rebate head

1) it fits below the table

2) the radius is small enough to match most furniture requirements?

3) there are many bearing type guide rings at, and below that size making it good for pattern copying of rebates

Regards, Rod

Re: A3-31 setup and calibration

If I have a choice I always adjust the non hinge side

For the A3 you put a 0.15mm feeler gauge under the straight edge at the far end of the hinge side of the outfeed table the raise the infeed table using the depth of cut lever until it just touches the straight edge at some point

Now adjust the hinge side until the table has no light under the straight edge while repeating the above.

Move the feeler gauge and straight edge to the operator side and repeat the above steps.

Hi, new unused D951 for sale still have the original pallet and foot mount cleats for shipping asking $14,000 firm on that for the moment.? Machine is three phase 7.5hp spiral cutter head still under warranty. Small side story I bought a used industrial dust collector awhile back out of state seller stated they had pallet for shipping. I show up with rental truck pallet is two feet short and no power at the shop. Criminy off to home depot I drop $500 on cordless tools, 2x4s and ply charge tools in vehicle then build a pallet. Super sucked.? I can pick you up at airport, drive you to rental truck or just have this ready to go up to you.??Forklift and pallet jack on hand for loading, prefer local pickup but can do LTL.? Location is Cleveland zip 44256.

Reason for selling: I upgraded to a Martin package.

This has been discussed and debated several times over the years here on FOG. ?Have a look at the following threads in the archive:

Personally, I think it all depends on the type of projects you are tackling. ?It is true that the nickers will yield better cross-grain joints, and tend to limit chip-out, particularly with the top veneers on plywood with hardwood faces, and with melemine particle board. ?The Felder dado cutters also produce a true flat bottom. ?But if you¡¯re planning to do things like make Green & Green or Scandinavian bridle joints, like the one shown below, you either hate them or find them enhancing the overall ¡°craftiness¡± of the joint. ?

screenshot_30 copy.jpeg

The nickers on the Felder unit are carbide, and thus challenging to ¡°hone down¡± - I did it once for a project and don¡¯t recommend it. ?I have a pair of Forrest Dado King 12¡± sets that I had bored to 30mm and the pin holes installed which when sharp deal with cross-grain chip-out as any ATB style saw blade. ?I don¡¯t use them often, but they have served me well, especially when cutting very deep tenons on the shaper for projects like Post & Rail fences. ?See below:

I agree with Lucky, the bat ears are visible but I don¡¯t design furniture with exposed dados. Also they serve to make exceptionally clean cuts.?

Hi Murray:

?

Very kind of you to say that.

?

I do not find the bat ears to be a negativity and therefore have not tried to ¡°hone them down¡±. They are big enough to see, for sure, and in fine furniture if the joint were exposed, you would definitely see them. But by definition, I don¡¯t see many (any?) instances where an exposed joint of that type is compatible with fine furniture.

?

My main use for the dado is for grooving of drawer parts, machining lapped joints, even making tenons (even though technically that ought to be done on the shaper). For each of these three examples, the bat ears have no bearing and do not show (except maybe at the back of a drawer so there is that).

?

If a furniture design called for a full, open groove or trench, exposed for the world to see, then I¡¯d explore a different machinery method ¨C probably a router.

?

Bottom line, the bat ears are rarely a problem and if they are, there¡¯s always an alternative. Personally, I don¡¯t see the dado design to be a shortcoming. Those bat ears give me exceptionally sharp crosscuts (e.g. half-lap joints), and any ¡°ears¡± from the nickers are hidden. If the cutter didn¡¯t have those nickers, the crosscuts would not be nearly so clean ¨C especially in cantankerous hardwoods like I often use.

?

Consequently, the dado cutter is perfect for my needs. I hope this is useful.

?

Warm regards,

Lucky
