Re: Adjustable pull out trays

Imran,
The dovetail idea is intriguing for face frame cabinets, but I am doing euro boxes. The other thing is I am not willing to put in that much time as im throwing this in
I see some other comments but havent had time to look at them yet.

?Glen,

?First thought that comes to mind is having a stack of dovetail ways on the inside on each side of the lower cabinet. The width of the dovetail way should be wide enough to receive a dovetailed part that one can mount the drawer slide to. A pin/screw of sort will be required to prevent the dovetail slide to pull out.

Not as adjustable as pins but I can¡¯t imagine that working without incorporating lateral support that would keep the runners pushed into the cabinet sides. This support will also push on the sides of the cabinet outward. I guess the drawer could itself be tight fitting to accomplish this but I am not sure if slides are designed to do so. Also, it would not be easy to relocate them because the runners would need to be held onto the sides while the drawer is inserted. Maybe I am not following this concept properly.

You remember those things we did in the 80/90 days instead of drawers.
so because I like to go on and above I would like to make them adjustable.
I am looking for ideas on doing that. I thought about a runner for the slide that pins in to the shelf support holes that I did not drill in this case, but not sure if they would stay in place when the tray is pulled out.

Any ideas, TIA

Re: The price of an information at Felder?

Fully agree SCM is repair friendly, I had a very minor issue yesterday with my 1 yo SCM spindle moulder, I am not a mechanic and I believed it required technician (pneumatic pin wont lock spindle) but I gone through the manual and I had a hunch that could do it myself, which I did and it was done in 15 minutes because it was easily accessible and repair friendly.?

I think there are only a handful of choices when buying MM or SCM.? They used to have a great guy at parts pronto that was very helpful troubleshooting but I believe that is no longer a good option.? The SCM machines are known to be repair friendly in the way they are laid out.? My experience is with used as there are more choices at lower cost than Felder and given my not always brilliant method of buying very rare machines, I rely on the internet groups like this one and others more than manufacturers.? John,

That is a bummer. In USA, there is no charge for trouble shooting a machine. I guess there might be a limit but I have spent 1/2hr on the phone with a tech. I only bought my KF new and I have received help on 4 other machines that I bought used. I personally think this is a very valuable part of buying from Felder - parts and service after sale.

On a related note, I was conversing with an SCM owner on another forum. Their setup is thru dealers. The service you receive is via dealership. I have no idea, how good/bad their service is but I do not want to be at the mercy of a dealership. I am afraid that they might offer good service to a major client and not so good to a lonely hobby woodworker, especially one who bought a used machine.

Re: K700s commissioning and DB

Steve your experience parallel's mine. I ordered my Kappa 400 at the end of 12/20 and received it last August. While waiting for the saw I totally reimagined my shop, upgraded electrical, lighting and put in all new clamp together ductwork. I too am very grateful for all the advice and help that David Best gave to me in configuring my machine and recommending commissioning. I had Felder Tech Kelly commission my Kappa 400 and AD941. Not all would agree, but I think commissioning should be builtin to the pricing which would eliminate a lot of frustrations. Plus a big shout all to all those who are so helpful on this forum.?

Re: Problem with Delivery of new Felder K770S

Thanks, Steve!

I was not really excited about assembling things. The slider is heavy and awkward, and the fence is also. I am not sure what the slider weighs, but your manifest says the slider and crate weigh about 350 pounds.

Trucking distance from Delaware is some 1,500 to 1,600 miles more than from Los Angeles. Hard to say what that means in terms of cost compared to shipping through the Panama Canal. American trucking is pretty efficient, so I would not expect the cost difference to be great. In fact, Felder must have determined it was in their best interest to route it through Delaware. I have heard of ships being diverted from LA to the east coast due to delays at Los Angeles.

K700s commissioning and DB

I finally got my new K700s commissioned and up and running yesterday. I ordered it in December 2020 and took delivery in late September. You'd think that after waiting 10 months I'd be ready for the saw but, no, not even close. After finishing a project I proceeded to completely reinvent my shop floor plan. Redo some electrical, tear up the dust collection and in the middle of it all, have half my knee replaced. Four weeks after surgery I was under the shop floor (wood floor, 3' crawlspace) putting the DC piping back together.?

I want to give a big shout out to David Best. I've never talked to him but have read everything he's written on buying one of these things at least five times so I felt pretty comfortable building the saw when ordering. One thing I kept seeing was his recommendation to have Felder commission your new machine. I sure didn't want to spend the $1400 but the fact he has Felder commission his new machines really made an impression on me. THANK GOD I FOLLOWED HIS ADVICE! I had put the saw together (Felder's instructions are rather vague on this) and noticed the slider seemed to be a bit high to the cast table on the outfeed side of the blade. No worries as the Felder tech will dial it in I thought. Turns out the cast table was way out of wack. Two opposite corners low and the other two high. The tech had to level the cast, then start from scratch with the slider and then dial everything else in. He was at the house for 9 hours but got it all set up. Thank you Kelly! And thank you DB! I'm reasonably mechanically inclined but I seriously doubt I could have figured it all out before I blew up with frustration. About the best $1400 I've ever spent. I'm really excited to get the shop back together and start cutting wood!

Re: Problem with Delivery of new Felder K770S

John,

The commissioning contract says the saw must be in its final position which I took to mean put together and situated where it will live. I¡¯ve since learned that everything should be uncrated and the saw cabinet must be in the place it will live. And yes, the electrical and DC must be hooked up. They will ask you to measure the voltage and it must be within 10% of the rated power. You don¡¯t have to assemble anything so you will have parts all over the shop. They¡¯re all heavy and awkward so be careful. I got the feeling they prefer that the owner not assemble the saw so they can assemble it correctly and not have to fix any mistakes made by the owner. In my case I guess I assembled it correctly so no harm no foul. It was beneficial for me as it still took the whole day to commission. I described the commissioning in another post. Let me know if you don¡¯t see it.

Crazy your saw is coming through Delaware but it will probably save weeks if not months in delivery time. I¡¯m pretty sure mine sat on a ship for at least a few weeks as it took 10 months to arrive. I¡¯m so relived to have up and running. It¡¯s been a project and I¡¯m not done yet getting the shop back together.
