Re: Colour Reference for Solid Green Paint 6/7 Series

I don¡¯t think it¡¯s the same colour throughout the BF6 production years. I have a 1996 and a 1999 and the darker colour is the same on both, but the earlier machine's planer/thicknesser section is an insipid green hammertone. I have seen that on other mid 90¡¯s BF6 machines.?

I thought the Deckels were a lighter green, but only ever had grey ones so I can¡¯t be sure.?

Jarvis,
I have serviced and sold a few , solid heavy machine . Sliding carriage is not next to saw blade. Better than BU series and BF5 with scabbed on slider.
Dove tail coupling . I wouldn¡¯t be afraid to buy one if in nice shape.
I actually have a few accessories for the machine. Large cast table for outrigger top.

Regular drill bits will drill cast iron just fine, you have to go slow though, like 600-1000 rpm for 1/8¡± to 1/4¡± sized holes. No oil is needed, you can drill it dry, just blow the chips/dust out of the holes, cast iron just crumbles instead of making stringy chips. Same goes for tapping.

Re: Oneida Supercell

We run Dynabrade x51v sanders with 3m cubitron paper and a few assorted vacuums. I wish I could rig the vacs to auto trigger but it¡¯s a highly effective system at catching dust and the sanders really rip.

hard to believe there are still shops willing to basically ruin people¡¯s lungs with all that super fine dust everywhere.

Re: Oneida Supercell

It's a workplace culture issue on this project? I'm looking at. I've already committed long ago to functional electric options in the festool system as well as the shop dust collection central system, but what I'm looking at uses no hole media platens on pneumatics and I'm trying to solve a problem while still keeping the pneumatics in service and making acceptable incremental improvements rather than disagreeable revolutions at this particular site. The Oneida supercell seemed to fit the infrastructure available and the performance philosophy while being a minimal investment in total system I could unplug and take back when the project was over. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a pipe dream since cfm rating is so low at <500.

I'll assume you're up to speed on the difference between high volume dust collection (Oneida, RL series) vs high pressure dust collection (Festool CT series, etc). If you have questions on that I'm sure many people here can assist.?

Is there a reason you're committed to the pneumatic sander?

Re: 16" 4 knife cutter block

Dave,?
Thanks for the idea, I hadn't considered it as an option.

It is a very early machine running the twin Z section vee belts rather than the J9 Poly-vee belts so my options to change the cutter head pulley may be limited.
Changing the motor pulley is likely to be an expensive piece of engineering work.

I am looking at converting it to a variable feed set up as the machine wasn't originally fitted with it so may be able to solve the issue that way.

I have to finish the other two machines before i can start the planner so there is plenty of time for research.

Paul

If you don't find a head, consider swapping a pulley to speed up the two knife some.? People run 4 knife heads with blanks on only two knives, often with carbide so changes are few.? Two knife heads were very common with rpms in the 6000 range in Euro machines.? Dave

I know I am probably better off going searching for either a unicorn or the loch ness monster but nothing ventured is nothing gained.

If anyone has gone down the road of fitting a spiral head to a 16"? 6 or 7 series planner or combo and has the original 4 knife cutter head lurking on a shelf somewhere,
then I would be interested in a sensible discussion about purchasing this from you.

I finally found a cheap (relative term given its condition (but not beyond saving)) 16" planner in the UK and while I have it stripped down to every last nut and bolt,
I?am minded to add changing out the 2 knife cutter head to the long list of things that I am going to do to it.

Yes, I have considered going down the spiral head route until I worked out the actual cost of the Shelix or Sheartak head with the shipping, Value added tax and Import duty!!!
Unfortunately, that will have to remain a wish list upgrade.

Re: Colour Reference for Solid Green Paint 6/7 Series

Paul,

I have to agree on the RAL paint matches.

I too ordered some paint for my Format4 and the description on the invoice led me to many a google search.

I ended up with RAL 5002 Ultra Marine Blue and RAL 9006 White Aluminum.?

I order them in a can and had to select the gloss level - I guessed gloss and I intend to paint some scratches next week.? My test sprays look promising.

I ordered them from Crosslink Paints for $11.95 per can.

If you get a RAL set of colors, you could probably figure out the match.

Brett,?
I'd say the solution to your pneumatic sander dust collection problem is a different sander/abrasive combo. I'm running a Mirka Deros with Abralon or 3M Cubitron and sanding dust is almost non-existent.

Chop saw, your felder table saw, a hacksaw, jigsaw, just about anything will work. You can start with smaller if that¡¯s what you think will work. It¡¯s just harder to add material than it is to take away¡.

Re: Oneida Supercell

I don't have experience with the super cell but I have a used Oneida V-System 2000 2HP cyclone with a 7" port that I'm selling because I upgraded to a larger whole shop system.?

I was happy using this collector for my bandsaw and Felder CF 731S combination machine.?

This was the second oneida cyclone I've owned and was very happy with it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy their products again.?

Private message me if you have any interest in my unit.?

I appreciate the comments. Steve, the bill of lading is quite informative.

I may try to get the material home and into my garage before I figure out how to get it from there to my shop.

I will definitely look into a rigger. Expertise is worth a lot!

Maybe an email to Felder directly would yield an answer? I know they supplied me with some touch up paint when I bought my machines in 2001, the bottom of my wheelchair scratches the paint off on the bottom of the machine about 4¡± off the floor. I don¡¯t think I still have it, and I doubt it had any numbers on it.
