Re: planer power drive height adjustment?

Imran,

I submitted an online question to Felder a few days back but have yet to hear a response.

So our initial theory was correct, it is a software version displayed.

This begs the question, why does Marty's not show anything?

I often look up new machines and end up buying a new machine if my current machine/service disappoints me.... perfectly normal, you only live once and do what you like. personally I hate wasting breath on repairing machines.?

3 PH is just an additional phase, voltage levels are not that much different and most of the circuitry on the machine is fed by low power DC, 24VDC IIRC.

Why not try it with him to see how far you get? You can always stop in the process and decide to have them come over...

Re: Kappa Error Code Issue

Thank you for that JP,
Maybe I miss understood or was not paying attention during that stressful moment.
Don't get me wrong I love my machine and have absolutely no regrets with any of the Felder machines I own.
I do have a few issues and just though I would give it time before I started hauling support out on ever issue I was finding being I thought I had six years.
I guess my next question would be when does that Warranty period begin? When the arrive at the terminal, When they arrive at my shop or when they were commissioned by Felder?.
Not that it matters now but good to know as I am not done buying machines.

Re: Kappa Error Code Issue

Albert, That was my plan. I am fine with 110/220v but when it comes to 3PH or poking around inside a dark live machine that is worth more than me with a voltage tester I'm out.
So I called Felder and described the issue and he went to i'm going to walk you through testing in which I stopped him and said the machine is under warranty and that I wanted a tech to come out and fix it,
And the response I got was That part only has a 1 year warranty and travel time is 70 and shop time is 125 or something like that.
When I bought this machine I was told 6 year warranty on the machine and 10 yr on the Xroll.. Anyone know if that is the case and I am getting the runaround?
I am actually ok to drop a grand to get this fixed but I have a suspicion that it won't be on one trip. I told him I would call him back.
In frustration I somehow ended up on the Martin website looking at machines......Hum...

I vaguely recall going through that same exercise. ?Until I reinforced everything, all the steel just flexed. ?I notice that by lengthening, the side away from the bottle jack always lags the pump side. I think it is the connector bar having some twist in it due to the weight and extended length. It works so I haven’t done anything about it, but you might consider welding it so the far side is pre-lifted a bit to counteract that. I’d be interested in knowing if you try that and how much is a good amount (my guess is 1/4 to 1/2 in). Maybe solid bar rod would have helped too. I don’t know what my welding guy used.?

In trying to determine the source of the 1,000 lb rating I contacted SawStop for the ratings on the bottle jack and wheels. No surprise, they didn't have the information and even if they did, I imagine it could be a liability issue to provide it. But in looking at bottle jacks on line the minimum rating seems to be 2 tons so it's probably okay. If the wheels are the weak link they're probably replaceable with higher capacity versions so going this route seems like a safe bet. It's also half the price of the Felder kit. ?Now, if I only knew how to weld.... but that's solveable.

As for shipping, they claim the ship it will be on is scheduled to dock in late November so I'm optimistic, but in today's virus colored world I won't be surprised if it's delayed. Thank you for your help, I'll report back when it arrives.?

Re: Slider Switches

Michael, I really like the Harmony switch idea. It's very clean and avoids any motion related problem with the wires and the sliding table. I'm curious as to the button force issue that you mention. Since the transmitters have no batteries or power supply, I have to assume that they get their power from the physical actuation of the button and hence are hard to press. Do you think this is a problem with the end of the table installation where you are curling your hand around to press it instead of a straight punch like on a panel?

I thought the same, too nice a chair. You mention FAT table. The heft of these tables was a surprise (for me) at AWFS. FAT 500 scissor members and the rest is massive. I cannot imagine that it is only rated for 500kg (1100#). My 1000# rated Vestil is literally a Tonka toy compared to it.

Talking about wife’s reaction; my wife calls my addiction “tool porn”. I am sure she did not coin the term ?

Re: Power feeder problem #shapersetup #rookiemistake

Hi David,

Good point to bring up. I have a fancy cover comprised of two shops bags, LOL! I put one from each end of the Vario4. They overlap in the middle and the handles go around a wheel or some other feature to keep them in place. Turning it on will for sure create a mess. So I always unplug when in stow mode and wrap the cord around the bags to further secure them.

I have not covered it since I put new wheels on earlier this year because it stays up now as my KF is only used as a shaper. I wonder if I need to cover the wheels to protect from UV ?

?I noticed Imran taking care of his PF in another post by wrapping a dust cover around it:? (#109875?)
His pic with what looks like the PF in the top RH corner wrapped in some sort of shroud prompted me to relate a problem I created on my PF.?
Typically my PF is in its dropped down position (below the KF700S table?and therefore the rubber tires/tyres face up).?
Not using the PF much, when I went to use it a few months ago, the old curtain I had thrown over it (to protect the tires from debris falling on them etc) was VERY tightly wrapped around one of the tires!?
It took some effort to unwrap / cut the curtain away.? Found the grunt of the PF had enabled the weakest link to identify itself and eventually shattered one of the cast sprockets driving one of the wheels.? The new part arrived a couple of months later and after a lot of time, swearing (mostly at myself for being so careless) and head scratching I got it all back together and it is working again.?
Note to self (and warning to others) remember to turn off the power feeder off if you are going to leave it plugged into the machine.? (The way it is wired the PF only works if the spindle is spinning and the switch on the PF is in position 1 or 2) So it isn't necessarily obvious when dropping the PF below the table it is still switched to one of the on positions.
Hopefully, that won't happen again!

FWIW, the process to get the new sprocket back on on required
1 Inserting spacers into the tension spring so I could disconnect the screws holding the spring in place.
2 removing the housing and two of the 3 bearings from the drive shaft
3 then inserting the new sprocket into the chain and aligning its key onto the shaft and gently tapping everything back into place (a piece of timber between the mallet and the sprocket etc)
4 remembering to return the circlips
5 screwing spring back and removing spacers
6 fitting cover plate?
7 moving the wheel shafts back and forth in order to manipulate the caps back into the cover plate which align the outermost bearings?
8 return screws around cover plate
9 return wheels to their shafts

Cheers
David
