Re: Surfacer Issue - trapezoidal surface after a few passes
#spiralcutterhead
Drew,
? ? ? ? ?Your out feed table looks like it is off. I had exactly the problem that you describe. I got the usual blow iff from the local agent, " impossible it is laser set etc." with my C3-31. But when it got as far as I wouldn't use it anymore, as it destroyed so many pieces of hardwood, then I felt that there was nothing to lose. I bought a set of feeler gauges and used a spirit level for a straight edge, then recorded with chalk on the outfield table each reading that I got, within five minutes there was an obvious pattern that the out feed table was not coplanar to the in-feed and there was a very definite bias over both the length and width of the out feed. The manual is not great at instructing you how best to proceed and there are ?couple of Allen screws and a bolt or two( one which I sheared) not shown that you have to figure out for yourself. However, it is very doable and David Best's instructions were my guide as to how to set the tables. Last time I had the Felder tech to service the machine he said that he wouldn't touch it as he couldn't improve on it. In the manual they refer to using a little piece of graduated wood to check that the blades are just touching it when you turn the cylinder by hand and drag the graduated piece of ?timber forward. That might be a good place to start, to assess if your tables are not coplanar. Good luck. Trevor Lusty Ireland |

This means the only thing keeping the blades or tooling from spinning is the lateral clamping force of the arbor flange, same as for the shaper spindle. This has always worked for me which begs the question whether the pins (on saws) are necessary at all? Maybe for giant saw blades? They are there to prevent slipping when the electronic motor brake is applied. Slipping or even worse unscrewing of the arbor flange/friction welding might not be what you are after. :-) Regards, Jonathan |
Re: Facilitating remote start on single phase RL125
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMike, For single phase it is a bit more complicated. You can control it with a contactor meant to start single phase motor with start capacitor or a start/run capacitor. The contactor can be controlled with a remote. I did not read thru the pdf and it may be doing something similar. Finally, the contactor switch can be controlled with a current relay if you want to do auto start. If all machines with DC are 3p then all you need is a single current sense relay costing about $20. I have not done this personally but happy to help. We can communicate privately if you have any questions. Imran On Jul 24, 2021, at 8:22 AM, habacomike via groups.io <habacomike@...> wrote:

Re: planer power drive height adjustment?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAmeer, Thanks for sharing the calibration method. I would just like to add that Felder recommends planning a board thicker than 20mm. Incrementally approach 20mm thickness while verifying with calipers. Placing a board will add error depending upon what part of cutterhead makes contact with the board. There may also be variation between blades, etc. Imran On Jul 24, 2021, at 9:23 AM, Ameer N. <highentropy@...> wrote:

Re: Radial Drill Press purchase
The HP of a motor is reduced proportionally to the motor speed reduction by VFD.? ?So if you're running the motor at half its design speed, you have half the HP.?
With mechanical speed reduction, you have all the motor power.? ?So it you change the belt to a pulley combination that results in the spindle turning at half the motor speed, all the motor's power is delivered to the spindle. This is why VFD's are not simply drop-in replacements for mechanical variable speed transmission systems.? ?If ones needs the same low-rpm power then one needs to increase the motor size.? For example, to get the same HP at 20% speed, you need a motor 5 times larger.? This particular drill press head (which was used on dozens of models) had a small motor because it's a lightweight spindle intended for light work.? It were marketed as "up to 1/2" drill in cast iron", but realistically that was a stretch. But it's fine for most woodworking. So the simple and practical answer for you is simply to change the belt to the appropriate pulley when you need more power. ?? |

Re: Radial Drill Press purchase
I'm unsure if there's a way to measure torque delivered on the drive status indicator option, but that's good place to start understanding your?limitations. The drive might have a program setting for limiting torque delivery as well. Usually electric motors and internal combustion engines cope better with running high rpms and mechanically reducing rpms from there. I wonder if your belt drive section has room (like, physical pulley diameter space) to maximize the reduction ratio so you can use the VFD to modulate motor speed from higher rpm range, thus increasing tolerable?load? standard pulleys can be found surprisingly?cheap and often on the shelf but it depends a lot on what you are starting with. Re: Radial Drill Press purchase
The shutoff with startup at high RPMs was corrected with an adjustment of the ABB VFD. ?With the assistance of tech support, the constant fan?
noise problem could not be corrected, and it was recommended that the VFD be replaced. ?When the new ABB VFD arrived and was replaced, same thing. ?Tech support was contacted, and this technician said that particular VFD has a fan that does not shut off. ?No one said why they did not just say that last time they were contacted! ?A different drive was suggested. ?The fan noice does not prevent the use of the drill press. ?It is something I would accept if that is just the way it was, but since it is possible to not have constant fan noice, that is what I will pursue. A different issue came up now that I am just starting to use this drill press. ?I was boring a 1 3/4 hole in 3/4 plywood using a 1 3/4 Forstner bit with the RPM=1000 (perhaps could have been lower), and on several occasions, the bit stopped turning. ?No belt slippage. ?It was not like there was that much resistance where I was trying to bore the hold in 5 seconds. ? My Powermatic had a 1 HP motor. ?It would rotate the wood if there is binding and the workpiece was not firmly clamped. ?This one has a 1/2 HP motor, and it seemed like these RAM drill presses had 1/2 or 3/4 HP. ?It is my understanding that with the VFD power is delivered in a way that I may have the equivalent of a 1/4 HP motor. ?I can just go very slowly and as a bonus, I do not have to worry so much about rotating wood any more, but wondering if I should make a motor or other change to have more power. |
Used F900 in Canada
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWith all the talk on shapers, thought I share that there is a used F900 shaper for sale in western Canada offered for CAD $9975 and he offered it to me for USD $1000 less. I have some details on the machine. Contact me privately if interested. I have no connection with the seller or the machine. Imran PS: I inquired a month ago. Machine is still in his website. If it recently sold than sorry for the trouble. |

Re: Shaper talk F700z vs. F900z
I looked really hard when considering an upgrade to my f700z. I loved that machine and Brian Lamb helped me make it twice as good with a dro fence modification - I would suggest that for anybody that has analog adjustment. I never had a problem with the 700 series not performing though, it was really ease of switching setups back and forth which is a big issue in my shop workflow of short runs and one-offs.?? My research skipped me right past the 900 series and toward the profil45. There's also a profil92 out now that has a lot of great features above the profil45 (at upwards of double the price, too).? If one were to fully tool up and accessorize with the aigner catalog, macs clamps, and other fun - I mean necessary -? things, its perfectly reasonably that budget will look like $30k or more, whether it gets spent now or later. So if you consider the full accounted cost of the system, sometimes the machine cost itself doesn't seem so much.? I do believe there's a pretty established "you get what you pay for" in shapers without a lot of gimmicky feature sets in the market across manufacturers. At the end of the day you are paying for weight of build, tolerance of mechanisms, power, and auxiliary electronic controls. How much do you want to buy? Lol. Final thought: I know there's a used 900 or profil45 out there every now and again - if you arent sure what you need it may just make sense to buy a good deal first then you can figure out what features you need when it's time to buy your forever machine. Re: Shaper talk F700z vs. F900z
I went through this exercise couple of years ago.
if you can live with K700 saw, then you can live with F700 spindle moulder? If you like 950 saw and it suited your line of work, F900 is probably better match. now you have a Fromat Kappa. I wouldnt want to go below F900... F900 should be the minimum/starting point. why not Profil 45? just think about the repeatability and the colour match!? |
Re: Kappa Error Code Issue
I wouldnt touch it if I were you. I dont have experience with electrical stuff as well.
I had similar issue with my SCM spindle moulder when I first started it up couple weeks ago. I tried looking up the manual for the error code but its not there, I called SCM and the tech came resolved the issue.? |
Kappa Error Code Issue
Hi all,
I know not many here have the Kappa saw but in reading the posts to gain knowledge there are a bunch of you that re very smart, and while I am not really asking for help because this is way over my head to try to resolve. upon start up I get error code 06028 and 06026. This has been any issue from the time I got the machine 2 years ago, but only in the summer. I know how to clear the code and the saw is fine all day. But I will expect the issue tomorrow. I have just been dealing with it. Today i had a customer that I had make some pats on the fly and he had to wait for me to clear the error, Which finally made me call Felder to deal with it in which they had a record from the start of the issue. I got a voice mail within a few hours that we need to maybe move some wire connections around, Implying to me he wanted me to do it with him over the phone. The machines are still early in the warranty period and I am not at all conferable opening it up and move wires. What to do? Should I tell them that because its under warranty they need to come do it. Should I attempt to try it over the phone with the tech, and what happens if I screw up and damage the machine more and then what would Felder do about it/ Any thoughts are helpful before I return the call. Again I have no electrical experience on this side and I don't want to touch it or be involved in the fix. Thanks All for your advise Glen ? |
