Re: any one know this roofing?
Cliff, I was born and raised in Norfolk UK (emigrated because of the 690 days of rain per year) and yes there are some beautiful thatched rooves there (rooves being the traditional spelling but now commonly spelt roofs).....did you notice the windows in your attached photo? they were stone frames with lead sashes... 开云体育Here's another example from near near me in Sussex. It's a restaurant called the Ginger Fox. Hence the additions to the roof thatch.

开云体育I was unaware that thatch? was still a thing.? I looked up imaged
of thatched roofs for Norfolk UK and???? yep? that's what it is. So I did some surfing and reading?? I'm impresses 20 - 30 years
life span and 7 for the ridge?? Wow.? In the UK where it rains
about 690 days a year? They are more than a foot thick??? I'm thinking Fire. Interesting? Thanks for that

It will be thatch, which is done with reeds. Norfolk in the UK used to be reputed as the best thatch available in the UK. Put on by a "Thatcher" which is a dying art but still pretty strong in the UK. Thatchers would usually leave their trademark on any job they done which in a lot of cases would be a small bird or animal made out of thatch and left somewhere on the roof. |

开云体育one more thing When hand tapping? using a cutting tap or die ( as opposed to a
forming tap or die) Drive the tap in? about half a turn ( or so)?
and then back it out? a half turn (or so).? You will figure this
out? the forst time you do it.? What is happening is? you need to
"Break the Chip" that was forming as the tap or die cut into the
material.? Backing it off like that? will? do a few things (1)? Replenish
the lube at the cutting? edges, (2) snap that off and make things
progress easier, (3)? it makes it way more possible? to extract a
broken tap and? (4) way less likely? that you will snap a tap.?

I try to stay larger than 1/4" when hand tapping and use a Procunier or tapmatic whenever possible.? Hand tapping is turn about 1/4-1/2 turn and back off.? If you are tapping #4-40, buy a million taps and be ready to be frustrated.? I have a lot of English
machines and my Whitworth sets have three taps per size.? Start with the undersized one and move up as needed.? Downside is they are made in India and I've never found much in precision in tooling from there.? Dave

开云体育Thanks Alex for the tips. I would like to share that Accusize was very accommodating. Spoke with a live body and a replacement tap is on the way. 开云体育I sold my 2000 CF731p with all accessories including big squeeze clamps for $4000.It was in excellent condition. ? I think $3 to $4k for that machine is high. ?It would not be worth it to have to fix things are find accessories on a machine that old. ?A newer x-roll machine would be a better value. Joe ?

The Holz Her is either made by Altendorf or uses their design.? Looks like a good price on the Altenburg too.? Large three phase machines are the best deal used if you can handle the amps and the three phase.? Often they are priced low enough to price in the
RPC and $1500 for parts.? I always assume a minimum of $1500 for replacement or motor work on sliding saws.? Dave

Pretty sure that was just a saw, not a saw/shaper. In that vintage with obvious signs of tons of use/abuse, I’d say more like $3000-$4000. Look around on Craig’s List, Offerup and Facebook Marketplace, locally I have
a lot to choose from:
for $10,500 asking
for $7500
for $3600
and there was an Altendorf F45, but it looks like it must have sold, think it was under $7k, might have been $5k.
