Re: anyone interested in slider nuts
Mac,
milled product is surely beautiful but i honestly wanted to know the benefit of a true t-nut. there is reasonable amount of time involved in a milled nut so it is justifiably expensive.
what i am offering is basic and from my experience they do the job. unfortunately there is nothing special about these nuts, so my attention to detail may not be duper useful, LOL.
i consider it a service to members as there is no money making in this. i will drive 40 mins one way to my friend to cut them on his band saw. then i drill them progressively on DP to the tap size and finally tap them by hand. $15/nut does not come close to what my time alone is worth not to mention tool wear. i am slowly trying to get into metal work and oddly enough a dozen of these is just enough to make it enjoyable.

Re: anyone interested in slider nuts
I have been looking for t-nuts and other accessories for my Frankenstein slider. According to the small shop in Dallas that I bought the saw from, the slider portion is from an Italian manufacturer but I was never able to get the name of the company. The rest of the saw was spec'd in Taiwan. I have looked online many times trying to find a slider that looked like the one I have but haven't come up with anything yet. Below is a picture with the measurements.

Colin,? Unfortunately all the Jarra drums are gone I have one I made for my wife , here is picture of this one. Made of redwood .? Joinery is tapered / beveled t+g this is a small drum 18¡± 6¡± to 10¡± tall goat head. It was back in the 90¡¯s I think I made about a dozen.? All others were plain some with carved surface bodies. Also is a picture of a small column I showed this one as you can clearly see the joinery5.5x5.5¡± native oak. I was trained by a porcupine ?to surface carve.

Thanks for sharing that link the book looks really useful. One of my go to books for problem-solving is the Encyclopaedia of Furniture Making by Ernest Joyce, updated by Alan Peters. There is a chapter on carcass building that refers to the Design Manual for Cabinet Furniture published by Furniture Development Council. I suspect that this book was published a very long time ago and I¡¯m not even sure that the so-called Furniture Council still exists. But it sounds like a really useful guide to the structural design of cabinets for stiffness and longevity. I tried to track it down but can¡¯t find a trace of it has anybody heard of this book?

never thought of running material thru WBS to remove dust. should only take a light pass. i like tersa on mine for quick change. i am sure those pesky little hard to rotate guys do shine in tough grain material.

Thanks Patrick
Initially, I could not imagine I'd put through anywhere near 5000 board feet.? Then, I wondered what this means!? If I prepare a face and edge on a 10' board across the jointer say passing it 4 times over the cutter head, is this 10 board feet or 40 board feet??
Then lifting the lid and doing the parallel faces in the thicknesser could make it a total of 60+ board feet (for the 10' board)?? If it is 40 or 60 then 5000 board does not seem unreasonable for the machine and I would have easily done 5000' in 12 months.?
Also, some timber recently was extremely dusty (which I assue was a lot of dirt build up, which I had brushed as best I could but can't have been good for the edge of the carbide.?
Both the infeed and outfeed tables appeared to?be parallel (co-planar) when checked with a level longer than the 2 tables (used as a straight edge) a week ago when I became aware of the problem.? After reading your response this afternoon I got my (shorter)
straight edge out to double check, but got interrupted so will get back to this hopefully tomorrow.??

Re: anyone interested in slider nuts
Mark,
interesting that your come off as it is essentially same size as mine. seems like, you may have seen the pic i sent you where i showed the slight slot i made in the slider handle. the nut you show has a generous round over, perhaps that helped. i also wonder if the handle is slightly diff. does your look like this:
i know couple of other folks may have this issue. if you do not want to shorten the nut this is an option.

i also measured the one nut that i built earlier this yr. it meets the tolerance given above. this is a ~4¡± long nut.
above is xroll. the bottom edges will be chamfered for pre-xroll.
