Re: Power feeder recommendation for Hammer B3 Winner?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I'd go slow on that recommendation. The Comatic feeders are heavy, and expensive. James, have you put a Comatic feeder on a Hammer? I haven't, but I'd be worried about weight on a lighter machine like the Hammer. And the value for money proposition is a consideration.?

The OP didn't give his name, but I would ask a separate question to the FOG: do any of you have a Hammer feeder, and do you like it? Does it work well? Do you ever wish for the bigger "Felder/Comatic" versions?

Hi,
Been following the thread on the KF700 recommendations and was wondering what the power feeder recommendation for a B3 would be? Should I go with the standard Hammer 3 wheel and the folding mount bracket option or is there a better unit or other options I should consider?
Looking to use the shaper for some cabinet doors, v-groove glue ups, and maybe some molding. Although I¡¯m finding more options in the router bit world for molding.
Thanks.

Thanks, what are the deltas between the 3 wheel unit and the hammer one?

Re: Sliding table saw for small work

Two parallel guides with built in measurement like the Felder units, I don't know if Brian's parallel guides have measurement, Macs clamps or any clamp mounted to the slot and you can accurately measure and Bridge clamp any width down to about 1/2". Fritz and Franz can also be used if they have measurement added.

Has anyone made and had experience with this jig or found a better option for these cuts or made any upgraded jig for this purpose with better stops etc. ?

Re: Sliding table saw for small work

Easy to make a F & F jig with accurate stops and there are several approaches. Instead of the standard T Track that Steve Rowe uses in the video I used the Incra track system with the Shop Stop which indexes every 1mm and is repeatable - which is useful as it allows you to go back to the same dimension quickly every time. On the rare occasion I need something that is midway between the digits (ie 35.4 for example) you can adjust the stops without upsetting the original setting. Parts are here ?for the 18 inch length

This is the DRO on my 2017 KF700sp, same as the DRO on David Best¡¯s Kappa
400.

IMO, DRO is not very useful without micro adjustment. I use micro
adjustment all the times to get to the exact spot, it would be very
difficult or time consuming to do that without it.

Page 28 of the current PDF catalog (available online, labeled catalog
2016) pictures the stops that match the ones photographed by David Best.
Same one as pictured on Felder's page for the KF 700 SP and K 700 S.

Page 47 of same catalog shows a different picture of the digital stop for
the K 700 series machine. The black knobs of the digital stop of the Kappa
saw are not pictured.

I then checked my quote's picture of the digital stop. It is the same as
the one on page 47.

To add more to the confusion. Felder's webpage for the KF 700 SP pictures
the digital stop on page 28 (same as the one David has for his Kappa), NOT
the one on page 47 or in the PDF quote I received.

I have seen videos of the Kappa series digital stops in operation, both
from Felder and from David. I have not seen the one associated with the K
700 series saw. Or maybe I just missed the difference all together!

Looking at the picture on page 47 of the catalog and in my quote PDF, I
don't see how the digital stop can be micro adjusted similarly to the
Kappa's.

Has anyone recently took delivery of a K 700 series digital stops? Can
you post some pictures? Are the digital stops different from the Kappa's?
Does Felder really make two versions of this accessories for the two
respective saw classes?

Confused...

Re: KF 700 SP options

Glen get the basics so you can get the machines setup. Keep it simple to start, most Felder blades work really well and will get you started and are typically easy to aquire. If you want some wacky Japanese blade that takes six months get and you have sell your firstborn to buy it can wait. Most saw/shaper tooling on your side of the border is available next day and can be acquired as needed IMHO

Felder 12" rip,?

Felder 12" crosscut. It will crosscut both hardwood and veneer stock. use scoring with veneer, I've also in a pinch ripped hardwood, cut melamine with scoring, no chipout

Felder Dado set? 200mm. I've used this unit and it performs great and can be used to setup shaper with 30mm spindle. It will cover 90% of all dado and grooving needs that are typically encountered.

Another blade is Leitz 12" Glueline, that again IMHO is a superior performer.

David's explanation is the best I have ever seen. I think what you really have to ask your self is what type of work are you going to do with it and will it help that process? Projects in my shop seem to always be one offs where nothing ever fits any standard not have any repetition. This type accessory I think is very nice but for my work it would be a complete waste of $$. YMMV. Good luck making your final choices. I am on a quest to figure what blades to buy...

Re: KF 700 SP options

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

This is indeed confusing and news to me if they¡¯ve changed the digital stop configuration when applied to the 700-series machines. ? Felder is always changing things without telling anyone outside the employee group, so I wouldn¡¯t discount what Liz says or the photos in the catalog, but I would verify the information. ? I will offer the comments that the photo of the 700-series digital stop (page 47) is identical to the stop on my Kappa except it has no micro adjust and the locking element (kip lever in the photo) is different from the knob on top of my digital stops. ? This could be a cost saving approach for digital stops on the 700-series - to eliminate the micro-adjust. ? The fence extrusion itself in the reference photo looks to be the same as the one on the Kappa, but there isn¡¯t enough shown to know for certain. ?To be sure, the micro-adjust adds expense, and while I use it occasionally, I don¡¯t find it a ¡°must have¡± thing - easy enough to bump the stop into the desired position IMO. ?

If the photo represents ¡°truth¡± I¡¯m not sure it matters much except that the micro-adjust is missing. ? I seriously doubt the fence extrusion is different, and the width of the stops with the Kipp lever sticking out the left side is probably similar to the stops with micro-adjust on that side.

Felder sends a power point presentation to their field sale reps regularly updating them on new machines and the details of equipment changes. ? I have repeatedly asked for this information to be made available to the cognoscenti within the user community, but the response is has been identical to my charge to John Renzetti to opine on the topic of moving FOG to a new platform - meaning silence. ? You might ask Liz to send you a copy of the field update presentation that discusses the digital fence differences - I¡¯ve asked for this in the past and when a sales situation demands it, they have complied with copies of the sales update presentations. ? ?I have found that saying something like ¡°this sale hinges on XYZ, and I won¡¯t be making a decision until I receive documentation about that point¡± brings response - not always completely forthcoming, but quicker than just asking for clarification. ??

As a corollary to this factual fog bank, I recently I ordered a new Lexus SUV custom build (thanks to Lucky again for raising the bar), and I had to put stop payment on the deposit check to get an answer to ¡°what exactly is included in the ¡°towing package¡± option that costs $150?¡± ? Before I took that action, I kept getting what I felt were uninformed answers designed to quell objections rather than answer the specifics. ? The sales people kept giving me their personal speculation about what it is, rather than digging into the facts at corporate. ?
