Re: F900M or Profil 45M

Hi Jeff,?
?
I endorse your plan to go with an "M" machine (solid cast iron table), as opposed to a "Z" (sliding table). The solid cast iron table will give you more options in terms of jigs/accessories, most small cross-grain work can be performed with a Aigner Contermax, and if you are performing more intensive tenoning work you can always bolt a Panhans tenoning table to the top.?
?
As David Best suggests, the Profil 45 and the F900 are essentially the same machines below the cast iron, but the fence on the Profil is a significant improvement in that you get a DRO/control of the fence.?
?
I had a Profil 45 X-Motion machine and sold it. There were a lot of reasons, but one of them was I found myself fighting the software. I had actually originally ordered the machine set up for "Power Drive", Felder goofed and built the machine to be X-Motion. Knowing the major and minor diameters of the tool you're using and precise control of the fence position is really all you need, everything else is just math.?
?
Staying in the Felder family, I'd suggest you either get a F900M and rig up some manner of DRO for the fence, or go with a Profil 45M in the "Power Drive" configuration.?
?
Looking further afield, the TF-130 is a worthwhile consideration. There is a configuration that included mechanical DRO on the fence.?

Re: Profil 45Z commission and setup

Thanks everyone.

PK,
I attached the knob like you have on your machine, what is wired is why two of us have this part, but Larry doesn't.
?
I got a permission from Felder to open to electrical box to identify the high leg (L2).
When I first run the machine it spins backward and the motor only run once. I had to turn the machine off and on in order to have the ability to run the motor.
Everything else was working, not sure if that is related to the fact that one of the legs to the DC circuit was the manufactured leg of the PP. Anyway I moved the manufactured leg to only power the motor and swapped L1 and L3, now to motor can spin without issues.
?
I got the power feeder coplanar to the cast iron.
?
When I spoke with Felder, the technician asked if I installed the supporting piston on the swing away. What exactly is that?

Given your stated requirements, I would encourage you to look closely at the Profil 45M - not the X-motion version. ?This way you get a much more robust shaper hood that can be tilted back and away, and has motorized fence plate positioning with a DRO. ?It comes standard with motorized spindle height and tilt with DRO. ?And you can order it with extension tables as needed for your longer workpiece applications.

The X-motion stuff is nice if you produce a set of standard products on a routine basis and need quick and consistent set ups that are pre-programmed. It doesn’t sound like that’s what you are in need of, so skip the expense and complexity of the X-motion.

That’s my two cents.

FOR SALE: HOUFEK HB900 Oscillating Edge Sander

Hi all, As I'm not getting any younger I need to sell some machines that aren't getting much use and taking up space. I bought this machine, the Houfek HB900 from Adwood at the IWF around 2006. It's made in the Czech Republic.? ?It's seen very light use. It's 3ph 2hp and comes with the accessory tables shown. Also mounted on Zambus casters. Comes with some spare belts. Weighs about 350lbs. I'm not able to ship it so pickup in Chadds Ford PA. Asking $850.

Re: Christmas in November

Hi John,?

Here are photos I had taken of the leaflet that was taped to my sliding table,? showing the two MDF strips that were preventing the cage from moving freely. Again, these were un addition to the short plastic stoppers that where wedged in to the very end. My shaper only had the plastic stoppers, my saw had both plastic stoppers and long MDF strips.

Hope is info is of any use.

Regards,? Cornelius.?

Re: Christmas in November

Thanks for the links to checklists, David.
?
Imran, I do not recall noise or clicks. The slider was hard to move.

Not entirely sure, but the first photo my guess is outfeed table height adjustment. Second photo is lock knobs for both infeed and outfeed tables.

Re: Christmas in November

Hi, in addition to the plastic stoppers, my machine had additional MDF strips wedged in between track and slider that prevented the table from sliding easily. Those strips were at least 1 meter long.? Only way to get them out was to push all the way to the end stop.

Good luck.

John,

You don’t have to do it but as David said the bearing is not centered as you stated the slider will not clear the blade opening. This is normal. It is a nerve wrecking experience to slam the slider to center the bearing.

However, I did not feel that bearing cage not being centered made it difficult to move the slider. Do you hear any noises when you do move it by 2 hands?

David, I hope it is that simple! I will not do anything with it until the tech gets here, though. I do not want Felder telling me I broke something! I appreciate the input about possible causes/solutions, so I know what to expect from the technician.
?
I did observe that the stop that limits the slider movement is placed incorrectly, so the slider will not clear the cover for the blade. That will be easy to fix.

Anyone know the function of these screws on old Hammer A3 41?

Hey guys, I just bought a 2004 Hammer A3 41 and wonder what the function of these knobs is? Does anyone know? Does anyone happen to have a manual for this old machine? It differs from the new models quite a bit.

Thanks in adavance

Weird, I don't have that knob/shaft attached to mine. I'll have to look at my loose parts that came with my machine to see if it's laying around.

Most likely then, the bearing cage needs to be centered. To do this, force the sliding table to the absolute extreme end of travel in both directions. ?That will center the bearing cage. ?

Re: F700Z slider to cast-iron height difference

Hi, I do a fair amount of template copying and have never had an issue with using a pattern that bridges the cast and sliding table.
?
The angle induced is so small as to inconsequential .

When tenoning I use the tenon table and guard.
?
The tenon hood allows for larger cutters and the guard provides protection from the cutter when the tenon isn’t being cut.

Did you remove the plastic transporting locking dowels that are wedged in between the bearing ways of the lower carriage and the sliding table? ??

I did mount the slider onto the saw, so I could verify clearances. This slider is very hard to move. It takes two hands to move it. I hope that is a simple thing for the tech to fix.

I guess I should also point out that for template pattern work, I use a spiral cutter that is only 100mm in diameter with an integral rub bearing. ?

David and Imran,

Thanks?again for your valuable feedback. David, there is one more question?relating to template routing - how do I fit this into the equation of having the slider 0.15mm higher than the cast iron? When you work using templates and remove the fence, do you simply cover the entire slider and cast iron with a material equivalent to the sled you described and cut out a hole the size of your cutterhead? It seems that I would need to be covering the beautiful cast iron table for a lot of my work - for template work and profiling wide boards on a sled. And the wide boards don't even need to be terribly wide since there is not much cast iron left before the slider interferes if I use a 180-200mm diameter cutterhead.
