You don¡¯t have to do it but as David said the bearing is not centered as you stated the slider will not clear the blade opening. This is normal. It is a nerve wrecking experience to slam the slider to center the bearing.
However, I did not feel that bearing cage not being centered made it difficult to move the slider. Do you hear any noises when you do move it by 2 hands?

I did observe that the stop that limits the slider movement is placed incorrectly, so the slider will not clear the cover for the blade. That will be easy to fix.
