Re: Waxilit application

On the planer and moulder I don’t. Shaper and jointer I would.

Re: Waxilit application

Do you need to rub or buff it in?

Re: Waxilit application

Is it to be sprayed onto the table to make the iron slick? Or do you spray it in the wood every time you make a pass over the cutter?

Fred, I use Waxlit. My moulder has a waxlit dispenser with a wick that’s in the table. On the planer I just keep a spray bottle. I want to try it as Mac describes on the jointer and shaper. It works a lot better than the product Felder sells for this.
I also tried the Waxlit paste and did not care for that.

Ed,

Start a service ticket with Felder. The tech will guide you to turn the calibration potentiometer so that the blade stops in about 6-8 Sec.

If you use a dado, you may want to ask if the calibration should be done with the heaviest cutter.

There are also lightening holes in the back of the mounting head, 5/8” diameter. I would do the same style you did, but mount the blocks vertical and stick two 1/2” dowels out of the top surface to engage in the holes in the head. Then they are captive and can’t get accidentally knocked off the wall. A slight lift up to clear the dowels and take them off the hanger/mount.

Mine live of the machine 90% of the time and if I have to take them off, I have a rolling cart nearby that they sit on until they go back on the machine.

Hi PK
Storing the jigs so they were easily accessable yet positioned securely was a bit of a head scratcher.
Eventually, I came up with the idea of using the recess in the back of the 'bracket' to friction fit over a lump of timber on a slight angle attached to the wall.
Pics might show this better than my explanation.

Re: Dust Masks and Dust Collector Filter

I use 3M N95 paper masks. They have are comfortable, and from what I read about industrial hygiene when I began woodworking they are adequate even in very dusty conditions. Once I starts sawing or sanding the mask stays on for the remainder of the day.

For many years I used a two-stage dust collector with a cloth bag. That did a terrible job. The HEPA filter on my Oneida cyclone does a much better job at keeping the air clear, but I still use a mask.
