I use 3M N95 paper masks. They have are comfortable, and from what I read about industrial hygiene when I began woodworking they are adequate even in very dusty conditions. Once I starts sawing or sanding the mask stays on for the remainder of the day.
For many years I used a two-stage dust collector with a cloth bag. That did a terrible job. The HEPA filter on my Oneida cyclone does a much better job at keeping the air clear, but I still use a mask.
