Re: 45 Deg Setup Square

Mark,

I expected that as the gradations are so far away. If you can make joints with no gaps then it is good enough for me. Perhaps operator error then.

Second pic is the knob I was pulling down on.

Re: Hammer K3 scoring blade fit question

I?was also puzzled by the metal part that made it impossible to install the scoring blade on my K3. Besides that wonky metal piece, there was a bolt that intruded into the scoring blade space. I removed both. I put those two pieces into a plastic bag with all of the other miscellanea that I removed in the course of setting up my saw, such as the bolts used to secure the saw and other saw pieces to the pallet.

It's exactly what Bill said.? That "guard" is there so you don't try to use a 300mm blade at the same time as your scoring blade.

Re: Everyday Glue Recommendation

Anthony,

In many cases, TB3 subjected to high temp failures is replaced by going back to TB2. The rise of urethane adhesives, epoxies, and 2 part mixes fills the application gap that TB3 can't fulfill otherwise.

Pivot it towards the main blade. This will require you to use a 250mm or smaller main blade. While I'm not sure, I think the purpose is to limit the size of the blade you use with the scoring blade.

Re: Teaching da kiddos #sawmethods

Was the world different when we grew up? My brother and I were doing small engine repairs and brake jobs when we were 14. I rented a plane in Detroit and flew it to California and back by myself when I was 17. I think we all had POS rusty Wildcats and GTO's by the time we were 17 too. And all manner of guns, skis, scuba gear, girlfriends. (Clearly I need a time machine)

Anyway¡ get a copy of the beautifully illustrated ¡°Hand Tools, their ways and workings¡± by Aldren Watson. If your kids pick up half of the information they will know more than 99.99% of people about more than just tools. From that I would work up to the machines via power tool safety lessons. I would let my daughters use the slider with lessons, but never the cabinet saw when I had one.?

Re: K 700 S, Did Felder cheap out on the rip fence?

No Glue stick or filling the gap between the Cast and the Steel extension on my K3. At first the wheel that was on there had a good sized bubble in it making it terrible to roll and Felder sent a replacement. The new wheel made it a bit better but there was still the bump between the Cast and steel so I made up that Nylon type material that's big enough to go over the gap without feeling much of anything when moving the Fence. Hopefully? I can get the picture to load? ?

Mark, the UHMW is a great surface. It is not slick. Not that a drill press table gets much, if any, abuse, but UHMW absorbs wear very well. It is a little more effort to machine, but comes up well. The UHMW slab was cheap from a local salvage yard.

Regarding the round waste insert: With a square waste insert, drilled off-centre, you have 4 positions, while a round insert has infinite positions. I prefer to lock the head in a central position, which enables changing up of drill bit size for the same hole.

Re: Moving new K700S

I plan to use a skid-steer with tracks. It may be hard on the grass, but should not rut the sod.

The skid-steer units can be equipped with forks, but for some of the devices the forks are limited in length. Instead of 48¡± forks I might be limited to 42¡± forks.

The skid-steer will have plenty of capacity for the weight. I have a 15-degree slope to negotiate, but that should be OK.
