Re: Sliding Table Saw Felder K700 S - Minnesota

I paid $7k for a 2003 k700s. It had very few miles on it, I thought it was only a year or two old when I first looked at it. From what I understand, when the x-roll came out it was quite an improvement over the older slider bearing system. I was looking for a single phase saw, but I bought this one anyway as it was local and I had been looking for a while with no luck.

I have only tapped may be 3 dozen holes total, in steel and AL. I have cut 1.25”x1/2“ steel bar with hack saw and it actually takes just a little longer than my friends horizontal band saw (nothing fancy). Although, on band saw, I can gang up multiple bars.

I have cut AL with router and carbide bits and while it makes a mess it is not hard.

Here are the slider nuts, while they do not have the awesome look that can be achieved with machining, they are more than fine for intended purpose and look a whole lot better than what felder sent me for the xcut fence. These were shaped with grinder and sanded with RO90 60, 100 & 180 grits. Higher finish is possible, I just did not spend the time.

Also attached is a Big Squeeze housing that I just sanded with a block of wood (cannot find my sanding block) in straight line motion. I took it to 500 grit using Platin.

If you want perfection see attached pdf. Ignore comment of 100 sanding discs as there were bunch of housings.

There are experts here and I am a novice for metal working. Just thought I share if it helps anyone embark on something new.

Re: Bandsaw tires FB510

So the tires showed up today. Quick trip from Austria. I looked at the video showing the ratchet. interesting idea but I do not think that will work for me. according to Felder I am supposed to spread a thin layer of? adhesive onto the tire and wheel then install the tire. I did not think that would work with contact adhesive. So i researched the 3M adhesive and you can use it in a "wet bond" application. essentially you don't let it completely dry like a standard contact adhesive.?
? ? So working quickly I spread the adhesive and while still slightly wet installed the tires. It was a bit challenging but I was still able to adjust positioning of the tire before it was dry. Only time will tell if this solution solves the problem.

I have been watching this thread very closely since it was started and all the ideas have been awesome, but the one with the laser mounted on the magnetic base on the blade cover housing really gave me an idea.

I have one of those laser adapters that you attach to the bottom of your laser for fine tuning the line out on a jobsite and thought, hmm.. magnetic base... laser adapter? "Emoji" it just might work... I removed the base off the adapter and screwed the magnetic base onto the underside and can attach the laser to the threaded stud on the adapter.? What's nice is you can seriously fine tune the laser line to shine exactly where you need it for the adjustments on the adapter allow for precise movement in every direction.? I can take more pictures and post after I get it all hooked up and plugged in.

Here is the adapter and the base magnetic which are both on amazon?

Fingers crossed that it will work perfectly..

In the ad it says1-2mm wide at 1m, and 2-3mm wide at 3m. So I’m guessing about 2mm, and given your blade is about 3mm, that should be fine enough.

one more thing

When hand tapping? using a cutting tap or die ( as opposed to a forming tap or die) Drive the tap in? about half a turn ( or so)? and then back it out? a half turn (or so).? You will figure this out? the forst time you do it.? What is happening is? you need to "Break the Chip" that was forming as the tap or die cut into the material.?

Backing it off like that? will? do a few things (1)? Replenish the lube at the cutting? edges, (2) snap that off and make things progress easier, (3)? it makes it way more possible? to extract a broken tap and? (4) way less likely? that you will snap a tap.?

I try to stay larger than 1/4" when hand tapping and use a Procunier or tapmatic whenever possible.? Hand tapping is turn about 1/4-1/2 turn and back off.? If you are tapping #4-40, buy a million taps and be ready to be frustrated.? I have a lot of English machines and my Whitworth sets have three taps per size.? Start with the undersized one and move up as needed.? Downside is they are made in India and I've never found much in precision in tooling from there.? Dave
