Thanks for the Formulas Imran. ? I should do more math regarding chip load on my lathe and mill but I normally just go with "slow and steady" or "that looks about right". ? Of course on these

Re: Shaper knife limiters
Thanks Everyone. You could have warned me that it would sound and feel like there is a 747 in my shop?. ? That cutter moves a lot of air and spools up like a jet engine. The test cuts went fine

Re: Shaper knife limiters
The Euro cutter heads are usually marked with a minimum and maximum speed. Or use the chart like you have. Generally you don¡¯t want to run at the maximum or minimum speed. The minimal speed can be

Re: Shaper knife limiters
Yes, like others have said the limiters limit the maximum amount of bite the knives can take in one rotation, but at thousands of rpm, they are still capable of heavier cuts than you'll ever need to

Re: Shaper knife limiters
I recommend trying different speeds. It may seem like lower rpms are more safe, but often the higher range of speed has more manageable vibration and breaking chips off the wood.

Rusty, No, you do not need to do 14 steps to finish the cut. Check this thread https://sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?266723-Limiter-shaper-tooling-(MAN)-discussion James [email protected]>

Re: Shaper knife limiters
Limiters will constrain the depth of cut for each rotation of the cutter past the material being profiled. So the maximum cut depth is a function of the rotation speed of the spindle and how fast you

Re: Shaper knife limiters
No, The limiter will keep the knives from pulling the wood into the head with too heavy a bite per stroke. If you are turning 8000 rpm, that's 133 swipes of the knives per second. Basic math allows

I am getting set up to use my new cutter head and custom knives. ? Are these limiters going to force me to take 1mm bites? ? My eventual depth of cut is about 14mm so making these cuts in 14 steps
