Unless? you can lubricate them? you need sealed pre-lubricated bearings If you don't have grease zerks? or oil? oil cups your bearings are sealed

Hi Greg, An easier to implement option, not as elegantes as adding a motor, is to modify the crank to allow use of a hand drill. If interested ask here and hopefully someone will post details. Imran

That's excellent, thanks Mac. I think I have a motor here that would work. I agree that hand cranking gets old pretty quickly. On the other hand I have a good Italian jp here that I may keep instead

The existing are probably sealed. Once you have the size, get SKF Explorer type bearings. They are a tad higher precision and still pretty low cost. Don't let the bearing people give you C3. You want

What I recall is this: I bought 3 hospital bed motors for 8.00 ea. Think the gear motor was easily moved up and down so gear drive didn¡¯t offer much resistance. This made micro adjusting easy.
