Mac, I¡¯m confused on wiring the start stop switch. The switch is momentary contact and stop is normally closed start normally open. ?

The 2 wire control makes sense circuit wise. connecting L1 to terminal 3 closes the circuit to the coil and closes the contact. That would also energize terminal 2. But nothing would be connected to terminal 2.
Based on the drawing for 3 wire I on¡¯t see how the stop circuit is closed as the stop has wire 1 connected to L1 and wire 2 connected to terminal 2 but terminal 2 is not connected to anything in an off state.?
I should not be so confused.?

Joe hook the 3 power leads to it use a breaker if you have to Nd hit juice to it you will figure if the motor runs.
?I would buy a new starter wired.?
I can give you a contact for this.

Joe, send me a picture of your starter and I'll see if I have parts in inventory.? My 217 has a 900 rpm motor and while a little slower might be good, that 3 hp motor will only be a 2 hp when running
at 2/3 speed.? Torque will be the same but the flywheel effect and the additional power is something to be factored in.? Get a blade with the fewest teeth and don't worry about it untill you find out if there is a problem.? I run a 3tpi on my 217 because i
found several Trimasters cheap but the 1.3 CT would be my choice.? Dave

In my bandsaw rebuild it's time for the electrical and to test (anxiety) the motor.? I could not get the starter to work so I took it to a motor shop and they found that someone (before me) had taken it apart and reassembled wrong and they
found one contactor is frozen.? The controls are 1967 vintage Cutler Hammer.? ?
When I spoke with Tannewitz they strongly advised that this saw with a 900 RPM direct drive motor runs too fast for resawing.? You may recall that I recently bought a 32" Northfield bandsaw and they asked what I was going to do and unprompted told me that the
900 RPM motor would run the blade too fast for resawing.? First, why would faster matter? I've found with my other bandsaws moving the wood slower results in a cleaner cut.? Are they saying that because the saws don't have the HP or build to feed the stock
fast enough for the blade design?
Anyway I have a three options:
1) Replace the guts of the Cutler Hammer starter with new. If so what brand starter parts would you recommend?? Maybe just have the motor shop do this?
2) Replace the starter with a new one. If this, what brand seems so many are now selling Chinese stuff which I am leery of.
3) Replace the starter with a VFD.? If I do this, I assume need some kind of fuse to protect the motor or can I just program the VFD for max current?? I would want to use a NEMA4 enclosure VFD I think to keep dust out but is this overkill??
