Re: Air Compressor Big and Small- David Kumm Style
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOn pressure, I run my Quincy QR325 with a 3HP motor at 400 RPM, soooo quiet at that low RPM.? Also I realized I don¡¯t need 175 psi, just heats up the air more. I run at 120 psi.? I¡¯ve had no issue for years with an HVLP gun.? If I ever do I can change motors and pulleys and run with 5HP. ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]>

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Mike,The two wide belt machines that were on this auction were both three belt models. ?Each belt had a separate motor. ?The table belt had a separate motor to move the stock through the machine. ?Like you, I have no practical experience with these machines. ?The control panel for the machine looked like it had controls for each belt. ?Joe Calhoun has a multiple sanding belt machine in his shout in Ouray Colorado. We got to use it during one of the classes I attended. ?His is either a two or three belt machine. ?I don¡¯t recall for certain which. ?Unfortunately, I didn¡¯t think to look and see if it used both belts all the time. ? It was very useful to rough sand large flat projects, and to some degree to bring those items to a correct thickness. ?I can see a great advantage for production work with one of these machines. ?Unfortunately, they eat a lot of power, and they have rather large dust collection requirements. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSorry Mike, I mixed you up with Mitch, who recently inquired about hooking up STW1K. Looks like Bill J just posted what you are looking for. I am still curious why you prefer this solution. The remote is designed to fit on the hose and is small. Maybe you plan to have it on yourself, then finding it won¡¯t be an issue. Just saying, I had the remote for 18 yrs and I love auto start and stop. It avoids the few times I forget to start the DC. Unfortunately, I still have to watch for blast gates ? Go the iVac route ([email protected] | RL-125 Remote start questions), ([email protected] | Remote starting options for RL200?)
It works reliably on these dust collectors and is simple enough that even I could figure it out. The iVac remote itself isn't too different than the Festool. Just bigger. Ultimately, I put the iVac current sensing switches on my Jointer/Planer, Bandsaw, and Tablesaw. I use the remote switch at my lathe and when I need to trigger my RL160 for things like vacuuming up around my lathe, etc. |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMike, First, were you able to wire STW1K? I have heard of Festool bluetooth but not sure if that is what you are referring to. Not that I have researched, but i have not come across many BT solutions, not that it is not possible. Can you share the festool part number? Please share max current of your RL160 so anyone helping knows how much the switch needs to handle. I am not sure why you want a manual (remote) solution since you have already purchased STW1K which should allow you to do an auto start/stop. I did a remote on a RL140 single phase based on what others have already done here,
If you look in older message for 2020 you should find this thread. It based on the fact that the RL has an automatic position and with a $20 box item from amazon you can open and close this circuit that start and stop your RL. This #20 box item close and open the RL circuit based on its own connection to a standard 120v socket. If your festool remote can close and open a standard 120v outlet, you are good to go. Bill |

Re: Auction in WA with unipoint RAS, Lift tables, Altendorf, Resaw Bandsaw Etc
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Mike:My Format-4 Finish 1102 is a two-head machine with one motor that runs both heads. In my case, the heads are mechanically engaged (no transmission) but have an electro-pneumatic system to engage or disengage one head or the other, or both. While I have 3PH, I¡¯m limited by AMP draw capacity, especially on startup. My machine has a 15kW motor which is just adequate. I have to be careful or it bogs down/stalls. I also have a soft-start fitted that helps avoid the massive startup spike (the roller heads are very large and very heavy). It takes 20 seconds or so to start the machine to full speed. When comparing the start process of the WB sander compared to my Dual 51, for example, it is immediately apparent (sound, Amp draw), that the WB requires a great deal more power to start.? Ideally, a machine of my size, at 1100mm wide, would have at least a 20kW motor, or better, two motors (one for each head) at 15-20kW size. Now that would be wonderful! So, to answer your question, yes there are ways to reduce AMP draw, but the startup is the most difficult aspect to manage. WB sanders are hungry for power, but do an enormous amount of work. It¡¯s the most valuable machine I own (both cost and physical output or ROI).? Warm regards, Lucky On 26 Jan 2021, at 9:00 am, Mike Bemis <Michaelsbemis@...> wrote:
