Mitch,

This is best I can think of. Maybe someone here will confirm. Run it by Felder before implementing it.

The dust collector motor is single phase and thus uses just two of the available 3 input lines at the contactor. The contactor is controlled by 240V for switching on/off.

Re: Pending delivery, looking for advice

Chris Perren's recommendations are spot- on. Be sure to get a NARROW pallet jack, regulars won't fit under many pieces of Felder kit. Mac's clamps are an "expensive option" when you are shopping/looking, but once you have them they are "essential." Don't wait, get them now.?
One more: consider the commissioning service if you are new to Felder - their documentation is not *bad* but it assumes you have a certain level of experience but there are little tricks here and there which can save you a lot of time and effort, not to mention potential damage to the goods. Next- to- lastly, get ahold of David Best's Unofficial Survival Guide. Many good hints and methods which will help, no matter which pieces you have purchased. And lastly, welcome and good luck!
Cheers

Re: Pending delivery, looking for advice

I'll second that, the machines are HEAVY. Depending where you've got to move them to you might consider hiring a rigging company.?

Do you have the duct work plan all squared away for your dust collection? If not, highly recommend the clamp together ductwork. Nordfab is the big name in that category but I got mine from a place in Michigan call the blastgate company (blastgateco.com). Still expensive but not as much as nordfab. I suffer a bit from what I've heard referred to as "rearrangeritis" so the clamp together duct work is awesome. Very easy to switch things around or add a run when needed.?

Re: Pending delivery, looking for advice

?When they say "drop ship", that's exactly what they mean.? They'll unload the pallet from their lift gate and leave it for you to figure out.? ?Supposedly, a narrow pallet jack makes transporting the pallets doable, although it still doesn't help with unloading.? I ended up using a piano mover who was able to take my A3-31 from its pallet, carry it into my house, and place it on its mobile base (I used a Bora 3550 which I love.? It moves the machine in any direction with one hand once it's unlocked--as opposed to the Felder mobile base which allows you to move the machine only in one direction.? ?I had a SawStop PCS before learning about Hammer.? ?I've used your slider and DE unit along with the A3? in classes--if I had my SawStop purchase to do over again, I'd opt for the slider.? I think you're going to be very happy.

I would add, many times trying to get everything lined up perfectly on a machine is not always necessary(within reason). The best test is if the machine cuts straight, flat, and evenly. If the jointer is doing that, I have learned "If it aint broke don't fix it".? I learned a lot retro fitting a helical cutterhead on my Hammer jointer/thicknesser, as it meant taking tables of as well as and had to recalibrate everything.

Felder should be able to supply a maintenance file, with relevant tolerances for set up, so you don't spend all day trying to achieve unattainable perfection, when not necessary.

Re: Just another used Felder thread

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Imran, the machine does still have all of it's fences for the saw and shaper. It also has the jointer-guard (euro stye).

Comes with a share spindle and a single cutter head. It's a simple, straight blade with no profiles, probably for edging and rabbeting.

Paul, the casters need to be replaced for locker that can handle the weight. The ones on there now are ellipses from sitting in one place.

$1700-ish was going to be my offer, so it sounds like I'm in the ball park.

I'll keep you posted. If I get it, look out. I'll have tons of noob questions :-)

Richard if your machine is.stored in an unheated space I would recommend installing a small tube heater or ceramic heater with a frost thermostat inside the casing that keeps the machine? at 5 degrees.
Coupled with a good cover then is saves a lot of degradation problems from poor environmental conditions
Had i been able to store mine in a space with power for the heater? then all I would be doing is changing bearings.

Hi Richard?
Firstly I can commiserate with you being in the garage... me too!
You¡¯ve been given good advice though and it¡¯s all on the right lines!
I¡¯ve had to do it a couple of times and yes it is a juggling game as you adjust one element and then the others go out and you keep going round in circles!
However there is a correct procedure and it¡¯s easier when you take that route!
I managed to get copies of the engineers set up manual and it made so much more sense as it involves the saw table, blade holder, blades, out feed and in-feed tables, let me know how I can send you the relevant and I¡¯ll be happy to help!
Do you have the manual that comes with the machine? As you¡¯ll probably need that as well!
It¡¯s shocking that these set up procedures are not supplied with the machine!

Re: Adjustingearing jointer tables on BF6 #helps if no on #helps

In answer to my own question, yes! there are 2 pairs of bolts underneath. If you slacken off the cross bolts that go through the round pins, the bolts underneath become loose too. You can then wind them in or out and then tighten up the cross bolts.

So I now have coplanar tables - within about 0.2mm.

I found that my planer blades are not quite set right either, but that's all detailed in the manual.

My garage/workshop reached a max of 4 degrees C today, so the blades can wait until tomorrow!
