A selector switch between the motors could be done, but it definitely complicates things. If you have to pay an electrician to do it, and if you can find one competent, it¡¯s likely going to cost more than a second VFD. Of course three motors complicates it even more, so the cost may be worth it.

I am curious what your final solution will be.? I have a 2003 CF731 combo with 3 motors.? I dread the day that I burn up an obsolete control component.??
Instead of 2 separate VFD's, a single unit and barrel selector switch might be an option.? Switching could be done with load power off but line power on.? You loose the ability to tune individual start/stop ramp times for the saw and shaper but could size and set for the heaviest load.? You would need adjust speed between uses of the 2 motors.??
I looked at a similar application before inflation hit and could buy a 5-hp Yaskawa, switches and enclosure for under $1000.? Prices have really shot up and deliveries on some like Allen Bradley are out 6 months.
