Re: Nationals in the Books
开云体育We had a great time at the Nationals (as always).? It was great to see everyone who attended this year. ? We also had a little excitement going home (which is starting to become a Fairlane Nationals tradition that I could do without). ? As we were southbound in I-75, I experienced an abrupt series of dramatic swings on my 24’ enclosed trailer with my Talladega inside.? It began to swing like a pendulum (nearly a 90 degree swing) as I was in the center southbound lane with traffic on either side of me.? Fortunately, traffic all backed off as I tried to get things back under control.? Once I was able to scrub off enough speed, I was able to get things straightened out.? It still didn’t feel right, so I took the next exit to check everything out. ? Yep, I still had 3 wheels out of four… One had departed company – hub and all.? ? I managed to limp to the next exit, where I could at least find a parking lot with some space in it. ? Fortunately, Cy Schmidt came to my rescue.? After driving all the way to Cincinnati, he dropped off his car from his trailer and doubled back up I-75 to help me with my predicament.?? My eternal gratitude for his help yesterday.? He wound up trailering my car all the way to my house while I limped home on 3 wheels. ? Thanks again for the rescue! ? We are already looking forward to next year! ? Carl and Patti Sharp ? Nationals in the Books
Hello, I hope that all of your have made it home safe, or are almost home safe. ?It was great to see you all again. ?As stated at the end of the ceremony, I am actively collecting VIN's again and updating information. So if you find new cars and owners, let me know. ?I am also going to remove Jon's contact information from the website and add my own unless one of you wants to be the 'contact person' for inquires.? I know we do have at least one new member, Clark Forte, who owns a 68 Fairlane 500 Four Door. ? Once he posts for the first time, let give him a warm welcome. -- ============================================================ I am Linc..... Re: Battery suggestion 27F
Jim, Battery Tenders are way way over priced and over rated. There are several other Battery Chargers that also have a Maintain mode and/or just Maintainers that are a lot less expensive. I bought a 4 amp charger and maintainer from Harbor Freight that also has a automatic Desulfate mode IF the battery voltage has dropped below a specific voltage before the charger has been connected. That said, buy the Largest battery you can that will fit the location it is going in. This includes BOTH physical size AND more importantly Highest Specs (Highest Cranking Amps, Highest Cold Cranking Amps & Highest Reserve Capacity). These higher specs will help crank the engine over faster and longer, plus should help the battery to last longer as it isn't being as stressed as hard when performing these tasks (as in it isn't at or even close to it's rated limits). Also the higher reserve capacity will help in cases where you accidentally left say the lights on for a little too long and still be able to crank the engine over and possibly start the car (thus not leaving you stranded and waiting for a jump). Also make sure ALL battery/grounds/alternator connections are clean (NO corrosion, oxidation and/or rust on the contact surfaces) and have good contact. Make sure ALL battery cables are in good condition and are NOT undersized. NOTE: There can be 2 different terminal orientations for a specific size and/or Group battery, + - or - +. Additionally I have found that more and more batteries are coming with less and less warranty & the life expectancy/quality doesn't seem to be as good as it has been in the past. See the attached Motorcraft Battery spec PDF. And what ever battery you choose to buy make SURE you KEEP the Receipt safe at home AND keep a copy of it in the car you put the battery in. This WILL help you in case of a Warranty Claim. NOTE: Ford Motorcraft does/did have a 48-month FREE replacement warranty battery in their "NEW Super Duty Truck and SUV" battery line. You MIGHT want to check into this, PROVIDED they have one of them in a physical size you can use/fit in your car. Re: Battery suggestion 27F
Jim, I have an aftermarket hold down. but it works similar to a factory stock hold down.? It is a bracket that goes across the center from side to side.? It doesn't attach to the inner fender well wall but has two threaded bars that tie into the battery holder base on each side.? Nuts are tightened to hold the battery in place.? I see no reason a stock hold down would not work unless the battery height is way off. Gary in SoCal

Re: Battery suggestion 27F
Jim, If you decide to go with Optima, I use a Red Top Group 35 for my Cobra.? The positive terminal is away from the fender and is at the back of the battery nearest the starter solenoid.? That makes the negative post at the front and away from the fender.? I like Optima because I don't have to be concerned about acid corrosion.? The last one I replaced was 11 years old.? It did not fail but was starting to cause a slower crank and I had to charge it occasionally to keep the charge topped off.? They recommend a special charger for AGM batteries, but I just used the old style.? Just make sure not to over charge them. Gary in SoCal

I need to replace my battery. My last two have been the Autolite reproductions. They never seem to last, don’t like hot weather , and you can not use a trickle charger. He had a tough battle, but spiritually in a good place. Honored to have known him and will certainly miss his sense of humor. God speed my friend. On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, 8:03 PM, Dennis Bregitzer <dennis.bregitzer@...> wrote:
