Re: 68 Torino GT in Wyoming
Yeah, I was going by the gt badge on the rear and c-stripes to think it's a gt.? On the hood, I'll let him know if he can get in and open it. On my car, I went to close the hood and it started going toward drivers fender at an angle. Had to replace hood hinge and straighten hood a bit. I've started lubing the hinges at least once a year. Re: 68 Torino GT in Wyoming
Yes, but easily added to make a GT clone if a previous owner wanted. Though, Odds are it is a real GT, but will know for sure once Will is able to get the VIN #. Would be way cool IF Will's friend was able to get a good clear readable pic of the Data Plate also. David from WNY. Re: 68 Torino GT in Wyoming
My bad, my 500 doesn't have the crest. BUT I have seen NON GT crests on a '68. They, for the most part look the same except center and the lack of GT letters in the center. BUT at that lighting and angle can't tell IF it is the GT one or not (as in can't see the GT letters). My '68 Fairlane 500 also has the crest on the grill. The only difference is the center, one has the cast pot metal GT letters and the other doesn't. And for the same reasons can't tell IF it is a GT grill for that matter (paint color is different between GT and NON GT grills, that is the only difference in those). As for he hood and hinges, I have seen that happen due to one of two things OR both. Too stiff hinge pivots (rust, rancid lube ect.) and or weak/damaged hood frame. I HIGHLY suggest and recommend that your friend look in that hood gap with a good light AND liberally spray lube/oil ALL the pivots of BOTH hinges as well as the springs and let sit/soak in for a while and then repeat the procedure at least once or twice more BEFORE attempting to open the hood. After the final lube it may be a good idea to press down on the hood at the gaps to help break free the hinges. Then go slow on open and have spray lube handy for more spraying of the hinges, springs and pivots. This to save Both the hood and hinges. Pete, I couldn't really see either. It looks like it has the red c stripes by looking at the fender. It does have the gt crest on the grille. I'll know more when he gets back to her place. Pete, that is just part of the standard C stripe that was common on Sportroofs and some Convertables. He hasn't looked at it closer. He's a Chevy guy who's recently converted to Ford. Doesn't have alot of knowledge on old Ford's yet, always asks me about them.? He's gonna go back soon and try to get a closer look for me. I'll keep you posted on what he finds.? Will Denver, CO On Oct 22, 2023 4:32 PM, "D. Hadley via groups.io" <dhadley390@...> wrote:

Re: 68 Torino GT in Wyoming
Will, COOL "barn"/"field" find!!!! On the face of it looks good. IF a real GT it is at least a V8 car (289, 302, 390, 390 GT or 428 CJ/SCJ). Hood pins MIGHT get one's hopes up for being a FE car, but they could be optioned on just about anything. Did your friend happen to indicate IF it was/might be a Auto or Stick car? You should try to get it if at all possible. Looking forward to seeing what it is. Re: Cool Share
Ok, another Question: In one underside picture there is blue on the flywheel that matches the engine and an obviously absent inspection cover. ?I didn't realize engines were painted with the flywheel in place, I have never seen paint on the flywheel before. ?Was this only done on 'special' cars? ?and is the inspection cover missing to show the painted flywheel? Lastly, in this same picture you can see the red oxide that has black over it in random places based on an overhead spray of the engine compartment. ?I have seen this on original cars, have you ever found any video or still pictures of this process from the factory on any Ford model? ?There was clearly a jig/buck/template that laid down from the top to protect the cowl, and it seems that it might interface with the two loops on the pinch weld. But I have no proof of this other than signs of missing paint on two cars near those loops. And thanks for entertaining me here. ? -- ============================================================ I am Linc.....
