We had a similar problem with the cruise control on our '97 EVC when we first got it. The problem was quickly corrected by the dealer's service dept by adjusting the sensitivity of the brake pedal override switch. Sheldon '97 EVC ----- Original Message -----

call Theo at Campbell Nelson in Lynnwood WA (near Seattle). They have 2-3 evc's on the lot (maybe they're 99's though). Nonetheless, I expect you will hear a number well under the 37.7. Bill Segesser woodinville wa 95evc -----Original Message-----

2000EVC sticker shock
Bob- I have just bought a 99 evc-I looked for a long time at other
camper vans-They are all much more expensive then the evc- the Sportsmobile, which was one of the first to convert VW vans in the early 60"s now costs well over 40000 and is very glitzy and over done in my opinion. The evc is by far the least expensive camper van made. The best thing about it is its simplicity- I also have a 85 westy which I love/hate--the evc is no comparison-I call the EVc my real car because it can go as fast as any on the highway-has great heat and air etc.etc -37000 is alot of money -but it is a deal when it comes to campers-Lary |

WWJ Radio review response to our emails
I also questioned Jeff's review of the EV and he asked me to forward
you this response: To Volkswagen Eurovan Owners: Thank you for your insight into this vehicle. In my test drive, I was comparing it to other minivans. Many people have pointed out to me that this was probably not the right thing to do. While the Eurovan isn't a vehicle that I would choose to purchase, you're e-mails certainly shed a new light on why many people find this to be an attractive vehicle. I do a daily automotive feature on WWJ, the all news radio station in Detroit. I plan to include several of the comments on Friday's feature. That's when I normally do a test drive segment. I will put the e-mails on the web in their entirety. At some point in the near future, I plan to re-write the web review, to include comments from Eurovan drivers, and put the vehicle into perspective a little bit more. Some background on myself. I've been in broadcasting twenty five years, nearly ten of those years at this station. I've been doing the automotive feature the past two years. I feel you never stop learning. Thanks for your feedback. Jeff Gilbert Reporter WWJ, Detroit jdgilbert@... |

My guess from lurking around here is that a 1999 EVC new sold for around 31,000 to 36,000 w/seat. I paid a lot for my 99EVC... $34,900, but I've enjoyed every minute of ownership (when it's in my garage ... rather than when it's in the VW service bays... I had to put that in... sorry). Good luck! ... and ask for a $3,000 discount and work-up from there... yeah I know... 38,000 with T&L is "STILL" a lot. Roy Nakamura 99 EVC 84 Scirocco -----Original Message----- |
Re: EV - The Movie
Bob,
Good point. The video also got me interested in the '93. It was a delayed action since I waited until Feb '94 to buy. Maybe VW looked at the list of people they sent the '93 video to and figured they might be ready to buy again. Perhaps one last sales push for the T4 before they move on. For me they would need to have a 5 speed model priced closer to 25K before I would see any possibility. I do like to dream however so you never know. Imagine having my own Camper. Bring on the movie! All the hoses are accessible below the vehicle. I would crawl under and trace the hoses to ensure they are intact. If you do find a bypass, you will then have to ensure that the heater core is without leaks. If you can't get the rear heater system working quickly, I would not be too concerned. The front heater provides ample heat and can be directed aft if necessary. Bob Williams 93 Weekender with 5-speed VIN: WV2MC0700PH104774 Severna Park, MD |

I'll point out that my checklist is mostly procedural, that is, things to DO, not so much things to PACK. As far as things to bring, I find it easiest just to store almost everything (kitchen stuff, bed sheets, pillows, flashlights with batteries, candle lanterns, lighters, first aid kit, etc.) in the van permanently, so it's always ready to go. My camp kitchen is mostly small lightweight stuff designed for backpacking or car camping. Before a trip, all I need to pack is clothes and food, plus an optional guitar, telescope, camera, etc. If you borrow kitchen gear piecemeal from your home kitchen, you'll want to make a packing list and revise it after every trip until you get it right. --Rich |

Re: Blower motor
Vance, Beaumont W.
You can change the resistor by taking out the dash and simply replacing it.

Europarts carries them. But to lubricator the fan you will have to take it out using the previously posted procedure. If you go to that much trouble, you might as well replace it because sooner or later, the fan is going to blow the resistor and start squealing again. -----Original Message-----

Cruise control problems
Leif
As noted in my last post, I am finding gremlins in my MV. I am without a
Bentley for now and would appreciate it if someone could scan any pages pretaining to the cruise control system, and forward them to me attached to an email? My symptoms are this; The cruise control worked on our drive across the country but now it won't respond at all. Is there a relay somewhere that I can replace or fuse to check?
