Checked the joint where the two parts meet and it seems to work. Using a

In my experience with this, When you slide the rubber accordion looking cover back, you will see broken wires in there.

ah, to answer your question about how bending can improve things ... it is quite a large bundle of wires. ?When you flex the bundle, some wires will be under tension and others in compression. ?Like

You’re obviously making contact when you stretch so look for contact Points
and perhaps there is where your problem is
