replacement blinds?

 

The blinds on the window of the big side door on my new (to me) 97
Winnebago Campervan are missing. There are two clips on the top of
the door, tho. Where can I get replacement blinds?

Hi Brad,
Have you checked your duct settings? I believe having it set
to 'defroster' kills the rear heater fan. Hope it's as simple as that.

Thanks Lee. I was thinking to get that report myself but appreciate the
information. Sound like the dealer could be below 26K if they really want to
sell. With year end rapidly approaching the deals may get better.
FYI - my dealer is offering 4-1/4% 3 year VW financing . Not very
competitive with all the 0% deals floating around.

Aha! Thanks. I test drove the MV with a 'flip' key that had the remote
lock/unlock buttons. When I bought it, they stalled me for an hour while
making a second key. The one they presented was the smaller one with the
light. I tried it on the door, and it worked. But once I got home, I
tried it in the ignition, and it *doesn't* work there. When I called the
dealer, he said "they're all like that."

Now I'm wondering what took them an hour to cut an ordinary key that
doesn't have any of the "smarts" to work in the ignition! We have two
drivers in the family, and will need a second ignition key. I'll have to
go back to the dealer and argue a bit.

#3. the rubber pads should be there. there nice to hold the cup in.(if
they wont give them to you, just "look" at another van and take them.

No, I wouldn't do that. But knowing they should be there encourages me
to bug the dealer for them, or failing that, order them for a 2003 and
know they'll fit.

MV jump seats..

 

I would appreciate any information about availability of MV jump
seats - or some reasonable substitute for sale. The previous owner
(a company in San Francisco) apparently took them out/lost them/???
from the '93 EV MV that I now own.

I have heard more than one VW mechanic say that the EV automatic
transmission is very similar in design to the Passat automatic (but
beefier).

It might be easier to find somebody with experience towing a Passat,
or adding a lube pump to a Passat. That information could be
transfered/adapted to an EV.

Tires & Warranties on Eurovans

Dear Listmates,

I have had a series of Eurovans and have probably bought 4 or 5 sets of tires. The latest surprise was when I bought a set of Michelin Agilis 51s last week and within 400 km had a puncture due to a screw penetration. Tire Warehouse where they were bought, said no light truck tires come with road hazard warranty and if you tire starts with anything on other than a P it is considered to be a light truck tire. Good question to ask the dealer where you are buying your new 2002 and 2003 Eurovans. What is the tire warranty and what does it cover? I expected better from Michelin...

Most modern engines require very little in the way of a break in.
Like everything else though, this may be a compromise primarily to
make things more convenient on the masses. I personally think that
taking it easy on a new vehicle simply makes sense. There are a lot
of parts that fot together very precisely, and have to run that way
a long time. Giving them a little time to get to know each other
before hammering on them will make them last longer. It also makes
sense to pay a little more attention to things like fluid levels and
temps during the first few thousand miles.

That being said, break in is actually pretty easy. Just drive
normally, (assuming you don't drive like I do normally) don't tow
anything, don't try to set a new world record making it to Idaho for
your mother in law's tupperware party, don't sit in stop and go
traffic, and don't lug it.

Those folks that believe being hard on a motor during break in are
part right... it will break in faster. It will also not last as
long.

According to EKTA, the front seat tracks have the same part number
for all models. My seat goes all the way back with no problem. I
think maybe you had the seat back reclined far enough that it
whacked the rear facing seat and prevented you from moving the seat
all the way back.

the only safety issue with the Euro spec is they have an Orange bulb,
while we in the US have a stupid bright orange corner with a clear
bulb. i went with the Euro look, LOOKS HOT on a silver van, completes
the front nicely.

if you get the factory roof rack, thule rack, yak rack, etc. place this
over the driver/passenger portion of the van. now, on these 2 cross bars
you can go to any parts store, walmart, k-mart, etc and get a travel
bag. they would tighten securely to the roof rack. it's a windbreaker
kind of material, don't know if it's waterproof. if not you can go to
sears,Thule, Yakima, they have a hard one that size, fiberglass, and
lockable.

2. I got 2 keys; one with the remote lock buttons that will start the
?? car, and one that has only a light in it, and won't start the
car
?? (the valet key, I guess). Should there be two keys?
There should be two keys that lock/unlock the doors plus control the
ignition.? You should also get one other key which can be used to
lock/unlock
doors manually and start the ignition.?

3. The '03s I looked at had rubber pads in the trays between the front
?? and middle jump seats. Mine has empty plastic trays. Are the
pads
?? missing?
My '01 Weekender does not have rubber pads...a visit to the local
hardware
store can be useful if you want such pads.

That single in dash is a german only option i believe. i modified mine
to fit in the storage tray just under the radio. So, like other VW's,
push cd once the indash works, push cd again, my changer works.
works great for road trip, keep the kids cd's in the changer.
it's the same in dash as the golf, etc. if anyone is interested
