Bruce,
I agree. At some point there is a breakover in the price/quality ratio
where it's just not woth the extra $$. From a post back in September,
one EV owner had a Meinecke cat installed for $235. He did mention a
slight loss in power especially when climbing in 4-5th gear. That does
concern me, or at least makes me wonder about the flow characteristics
of that cat. I have a $298 quote for an OEM cat from germanautos.com.
The installation looks pretty straight forward (Ha!). I'll seee if the
Bus Depot has a similar or better price.

Why add raingutters?

There are several reasons to mount the add on raingutters.

1. To keep rain from running into your door or windows when open. If you
have a poptop, the built in roof gutters are now covered up.

2. To attach a side tent or awning. The add on gutters have a built in
awning track so you can slide in a canvas awning, or you can clamp on the
tent connection.

3. To use with roof rack systems. You can keep the weight off your poptop
by mounting your rack supports to the add on gutter. Downside is you can't
pop your roof when your rail crossbar is in place.

4. So you can add one more German cool accessory.

Re: Shocks

I'm looking into new shocks for my 93 EV MV Weekender (84,000 miles). I've heard recommendations for Bilsteins in this group and was planning to get them. Then I spoke to a trusted mechanic friend who recommended KYB gas shocks as an alternate. Has anybody had experiences with KYB's?

Re: '99 MV wanted + advice?

My 99EVC has a center seat that faces either forward or backward, not on
tracks but on pegs that are threaded into the floor. The center seat is on
wheels and rolls into place allowing a vice like clamp to secure the seat
into place. The center seat has the lap belt only. Hope this helps.

Prices vary widely. When I need a part I usually check these web pages and,
if I can't find the part on their site, I send them an email. I am looking

I carry mostly accessories like tents, awnings, bike racks, wind deflectors,
screen kits and dash consoles. I'm trying to stay away from parts that are
related to repair or replacement. I'm currently working with a new floor mat
supplier and adding bras and Hella OEM foglights.

Ron at Bus Depot has some good prices, but he drop ships most items from his
suppliers. This is great if you can afford to wait for the part. If you
need something quickly, check with Steve at Europarts 858-451-0020
www.europarts-sd.com Steve stocks some of the most common EV parts.

A good VW dealer who will discount parts is Camelback VW in Arizona.

We'll have to come up with some sort of fun way to "award" these...

Re: '99 MV wanted + advice?

Thanks Ron,

That is a great feature. I went and test drove a 2000 and didn't even
notice if that feature existed but I recall the seat mounting hardware
seemed complex so I'll bet this is the case. I did notice the seat
belts though. We went ahead and ordered a silver 2K MV. There are
great deals out there for '99s, especially LS, which can be bought I
think for $25K.

Brandon

You may want to compare the seating arrangement on the 2000 EV MV
versus the
1999. In Germany the MV model (called Multivan there) now has a nice
modular
center seat arrangement that allows the seats to face either forward
or back.
The center seats also have lap belts now.

Re: New owner; extended warranty question

Vance, Beaumont W.

The permanent restroom excuse is a crock. My old agent told me the same
thing because they wanted the higher commission. I don't think Allstate
requires a bathroom. Part of the confusion comes from the NADA listing of
the Eurovan. A lazy agent will look up the GL and conclude that it is a
regular van. Of course, this doesn't apply with the old vans. However, the
Eurovan is indeed a recreational vehicle. How many normal cars have propane
heat, stoves and fridge's?

The rate is lower because a) people who drive RV's tend to be pretty safe
and b) people tend not to drive RV's as often as a regular auto.

I would talk to another agent.

I tried to get an RV policy for my '74 Westy and was told that it had to
have
a permanent restroom on board to qualify. However, I found and even better
deal on a "recreational use" policy through State Farm. No mileage
requirements, full coverage and for only $200 a year. I don't think it
would
cover the interior contents, but make sure you send them a list of all of
your added accessories like furnace, bike rack, awning, stereo, or any other

The policy is available nationwide. Rates may vary slightly, but Allstate is
shooting for dominance in the RV market. Their underwriting is well
developed and they are able to beat market prices.
