93 EV MV Custom

I am about to be the new owner of a 93 Eurovan MV with custom raised top and
lift (it belonged to a person in a wheelchair). I am interested in any info
available on tents that can attach to this van (since it is not a EVC) and
helpful hints on maintenance, etc. I am looking forward to joining the Eurovan
owners club.

We're looking to purchase a new '99 EVC here in Ventura, CA. Out the door,
with internet pricing and all tax, etc. it'll be $36,900. Your price with
those miles sounds like a steal.

Seems to me that DC is pretty centrally located on the east east, not more
than a few hours from many major cities (and VW dealers). You should be
able to get a list of EVC dealers off the Internet and start calling around
to see who can offer you the best price. Of course, you can also let your
"local" dealers know that you're going to get prices from other dealers and
are willing to travel a few hours to get a better deal --- that's generally
enough incentive for a dealer to cut a better deal. At the very least, you
should be able to get the base price of a EVC down to around 33K (not
including sales tax). There's really no need for any dealer installed
options, which primarily only serve to give the dealer additional profit.

>> A dealer required 6 month delivery.

That dealer obviously isn't very interested in your business. Look
elsewhere.

I seem to recall there was a discussion about that several months ago -- you
should be able to find it in the EV-Update archives. The answer will
probably depend upon whether or not the alloy wheels are certified to carry
the additional weight of the EVC.

EVC Questions (thank you)

Sheldon, Alex and schellhas-@... (Sorry, I couldn't find your name),
Thank you for the comments.

I'll call VW to make sure the 2kEVC will be released or not. Since 99EVC will be at a
local dealer shortly, however, I may not be able to wait for the 2kEVC, if it will be released.
I hard the differences between 2k MV and 99 MV were side/rear tinted glass windows,
remote key system and a brake-wear indicator. None of them are critical for me, though
I like the remote key feature.

It may be difficult for me to expect below $36k price. The price may be something to do with
area I live, the DC area. I called local dealers and found only 3 dealers could handle the EVC
in 13 dealers. A dealer required 6 month delivery.

By the way, I have found one another difference between EV and EVC at the VW web site.
EVC do not have alloy wheels but steel wheels. Can I use the optional Rondo alloy wheels
for the EVC?

Thanks,
Tad

Re: hood shield...do they work? Where to get it???

Severin D Chayka

I'd ask where to get it (bug deflector) for EVC. I was looking for one before my trip to Alaska this last June, but could not find it anywhere. Next summer we are doing up there again and it would help for sure, but I still do not know where to get it. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Severin.

We are trying to install a EV cruise control unit from a wreck on 92
Eurovan camper. Everything has gone together so far but the cruise control
doesn't work and neither do the 4 way flashers or horn.

Questions any one have an idea what relay the flasher is. Not listed in my
operators manual and I am still waiting for the service manual.

2. What fuse or circuit number is for the cruise control in early eurovans,
cruise circuit is not listed in the manual or fuse box for my 92 EVC.

3. What circuit is the horn on?

With this new group from eGroups, is it unnecessary to begin our subject
with "EV" as we have done in the past, to help folks filter these

I notice all the messages seem to start with: [ev_update]

Vehicles with manual transmission
* Install support 3250 to support left and right-hand upper
control arm
* loosen hex bolt for axle shaft/wheel hub when vehicle is
standing on its
wheels
* remove sound deadener pan
* Remove bolt for wheel bearing housing/ lowerball joint
* Remove bolt for shock absorber/stabilizer link
* Separate axle shaft at transmission drive flange
* Push shock absorber completely together
* Remove axle shaft.

Other notes.
You may not need to install the supports.
Loosen but don't remove the bolt that holds the axle shaft, it
the shaft is
stuck, you can tap on the bolt to loosen the shaft.
The shock absorbers/stabilizer link are easier to remove when the
car is on
the ground. You may have to lift the car 1/4" to get them off.
Do not
hammer on the shock!
The directions in the manual don't tell you to remove the 6 bolts
on the
inside of the drive shaft, but you need to do this also.

If you have a automatic add the following
*remove multifunction switch connector
*Remove bolts from rear bonded rubber mounting at subframe
*Remove axle shaft after pushing engine/transmission slightly
forward.
*On 91-92 models the bolts for the right side and left side
shafts are
different lengths

Torques
*Axle shaft to flange 59 ft lbs
*Wheel bearing housing to ball joint 41 ft lb
*Wheel bolts to wheel hub 118 ft lb (I better tighten mine!)
*shock absorber to control arm 118 ft lb
*axle shaft to wheel hub 148 ft lb
*Bonded rubber mounting to subframe 33 ft lb

Hope that helps!

Subject: [ev_update] Add on Rain Gutters Web Page Up

Trying out the new list here. Hope it is up an running.

I've gotten behind on getting information out to some of you
and I'm trying
my best to get caught up. I still owe some of you
information on curtain
kits and cabinet kits. I'll keep working when I can.

<A href=">HighRail
Raingutters for
EuroVans</A>

This new web page has information on the add on aluminum
rain gutter kits for
EuroVans. They come in black or silver (only black for the
longer wheelbase)
and attach with screws and adhesive. Once installed, they
look very much
like factory rain gutters.

There are several benefits to having rain gutters. You can
easily attach a
side tent or an awning, and they help keep water from
dripping in when your
doors or windows are open. They will also accommodate many
gutter mounted
roof rack systems.

The gutters are reversible, so you can put them on both
sides or just one
side of your EV. The end cap kits have different part
numbers for the left
or right sides. The end cap kits include the screws,
instructions and
adhesive.

I do not yet have these in stock, but I will place an order
if I can get at
least 5 people who want to purchase them. They would all be
shipped in a
long plastic tube, and I would need to repack them for each
individual order
in a similar way.

I don't yet know the cost of shipping these, but expect to
pay additional
charges for oversized packages.

Shipping to Canada may be near impossible, or prohibitively
expensive. They
would be too long for standard post, and UPS is much too
expensive to ship to
Canada with. I could investigate Federal Express to see
what they may offer.

Anyway, sorry for the delay in getting this out.

P-mail me with any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Steve Lashley

cv joint

Help - my husband has begun the cv joint job on our 93 ev and ran into a slight problem. He un bolted them from the van but was unable to get them off. Does anyone know if there's a trick to this? We had this happen when our mechanic was trying to remove our transmission from the engine. He was so frustrated he took breaks to smash rocks : ). Turned out there was a bolt hidden waaaaay up in there (it was his first EV - he's done VW though for over 20 years). My husband thinks he might have had the jack in a spot that made him unable to seperate the joint from the van and he'll try it again this afternoon - but in case it isn't the problem, if anyone else has run into this - Puhleeeze let me know ASAP! We leave tomorrow afternoon for NJ (if this works) otherwise it's a rental van (yikes!). Thanks, Cyndi
