Vehicles with manual transmission
* Install support 3250 to support left and right-hand upper
control arm
* loosen hex bolt for axle shaft/wheel hub when vehicle is
standing on its
wheels
* remove sound deadener pan
* Remove bolt for wheel bearing housing/ lowerball joint
* Remove bolt for shock absorber/stabilizer link
* Separate axle shaft at transmission drive flange
* Push shock absorber completely together
* Remove axle shaft.
Other notes.
You may not need to install the supports.
Loosen but don't remove the bolt that holds the axle shaft, it
the shaft is
stuck, you can tap on the bolt to loosen the shaft.
The shock absorbers/stabilizer link are easier to remove when the
car is on
the ground. You may have to lift the car 1/4" to get them off.
Do not
hammer on the shock!
The directions in the manual don't tell you to remove the 6 bolts
on the
inside of the drive shaft, but you need to do this also.
If you have a automatic add the following
*remove multifunction switch connector
*Remove bolts from rear bonded rubber mounting at subframe
*Remove axle shaft after pushing engine/transmission slightly
forward.
*On 91-92 models the bolts for the right side and left side
shafts are
different lengths
Torques
*Axle shaft to flange 59 ft lbs
*Wheel bearing housing to ball joint 41 ft lb
*Wheel bolts to wheel hub 118 ft lb (I better tighten mine!)
*shock absorber to control arm 118 ft lb
*axle shaft to wheel hub 148 ft lb
*Bonded rubber mounting to subframe 33 ft lb
Hope that helps!
Chris
