Re: Camper Won't start , issue with start safety switch

Thanks for the feed back everyone!
It turned out that the starter had a bad solenoid. The repair is almost done.
Vehicles have so many possible causes and
Symptom manifestations.
I'll be back on the road soon.

Sounds silly, but ensure the tranny is in park/neutral first.

If a starter interlock issue you could fire the starter ¡°manually¡± by jumping the small wire terminal on the starter to the battery + post.? I used to do this just by crossing that and the big + cable post with a wrench but it really sparks.? I now have a push-button wired up to some jumper cables for when I am testing things and need to crank (such as compression tests and such).

?

If you have any crank power at all that should turn the starter as it bypasses any and all other wiring.? Make sure the key is in the run position since it will even crank without a key in¡

Hope this helps!

I checked the battery with a multimeter and it was 13+V, so not a bad battery issue.

Re: Camper Won't start , issue with start safety switch

Can you find the source of the clicking under the passenger seat?
Could be a relay, if a relay you may be able to jumper there.
If it were the starter solenoid the clicking would be from the front left.

Fuel pump?? We had a similar issue and had to get a $700 tow to SLC.? It was the fuel pump.

Re: Camper Won't start , issue with start safety switch

What is the voltage on your main/starter battery?
Did you/they perform a check on the battery?
Did you try to jump start it?

Just because there is a click at that seat... that may/may not be the issue.? It could just be that the safety switch (guessing a relay) is receiving enough to switch (the click).
Usually a click on a relay is a good thing.

But maybe your van has another issue.
- starter/main battery voltage (common for me when on a road trip and a run batteries down, plus I've messed with wiring to customize power)
- starter issue
- ignition switch issue (I've had both complete and partial failures.? I keep two spares in my glove compartment, and I can replace them in about 5 minutes.)

Re: Camper Won't start , issue with start safety switch

A similar thing happened to my 1997 EVC a year ago. ?The van has been in storage, with the battery disconnected (but left in the engine bay). ?Van started right up and drove about 30 mins to a place we needed to stop. ?Then drove another 30 mins to our second stop. ?When ?I went to crank the van following that second stop, nada. ?Tried to jump it from the coach battery, nada. ?Tried to jump it from another vehicle's battery nada. ?Drove the battery to a Napa and tested it ... "dead/replace." was the tester's message. ?Purchased a new AAA battery from Napa (the largest size that would fit into the space I later realized). ?Installed and it cranked right up.
?
I remember being very surprised that the battery had worked twice that afternoon (after the van being in?storage) to only fail on the 3rd try - and it didn't give me the normal failing battery sounds - and it couldn't be jumped. ?It was just dead.

That sounds like it's starter related to me.? If it were an interlock, I don't think you'd get the click.

Camper Won't start , issue with start safety switch

Hello all,
Well I'm stranded near Page AZ.
Pulled in for a stop, got back in to continue trip and no start. Only a clicking noise from under passenger seat. My rig is a 2002 winnebago full camper. I think the issue is related to the safety switch when the seat is swiveled.?
I dried the jumper jumper technique of using paper clip to jumper pin 5 and 6.
Nothing change. No start, only one click each key turn.
Any ideas for a solution.
Is there a relay involved in this?
?
I don't think it's the starter motor.
Could it be an ignition switch issue?
The van was working flawless on this 3500+ mi Ttrip. Now stranded and will be getting towed in the morning to a shop.in Page AZ called Affordable automotive. I'm trying to to gather info on this forum to aid them in resolving this quirky no start issue.
Thank you much, for any guidance

Re: Free 1997 EVC Coil Pack, Plug Wires, low-mileage plugs, and Passenger Knee Bolster located Oakhurst CA 93644

Hi Peter - I¡¯m very interested in those parts. I drive a 97 chassis Rialta and my sister has a 97 EVC. So one of us could use them at some point.?
?
I¡¯m not entirely sure when I can get your way. I¡¯m in San Antonio, will start a trip sometime in late July or August that will take us to Denver and then via route yet to be decided to Santa Barbara, then San Diego by August 24. Looks to me like we could swing thru Oakhurst somewhere along that route, if you will be around for them to be picked up in August.?
?
If that would work for you, I¡¯ll keep you advised on our progress.

Thanks -?

Sold our '97 EVC & have leftover parts- Earl in its life we were chasing a random misfire code, and mechanic replaced plugs, wires, and coil-pack as we headed out across the country. Didn't solve the problem. Later, in Florida, another shop did the same thing...which also did not solve the problem.... and I kept the low-mileage coil and plug-wires/plugs as spares. Anyone want them? Likewise, I installed a glove box on passenger side & new owner did not want the passenger side knee bolster I removed...also free if you want it. I'm on your way to Yosemite Nat Park if you're looking for an excuse ;-) (on Highway 41) in Oakhurst CA 93644. Email me at pengalo@... if interested.

Best wishes for us all!

Re: Help Pricing Eurovan

Hi Roger
?
I live in California and recently purchased a 1997 EVC that was in Colorado. I paid $20,000. Condition seems similar to yours but the one I bought had more like 117,000 miles. Hope this helps.
?
I will need the same help when I price one that I am selling, a 1995 EVC that I have owned for 25 years. Went for the '97 only because we tend to camp on the heavy side and wanted that little bit more power with the VR6 engine. But guess what I discovered in going from the '95 to the '97 ¨C no glove compartment. WHAT A SURPRISE THAT WAS!
?
If anyone has any thoughts about pricing my 1995 EVC I would appreciate hearing from you. The canvas has been replaced as has the floor, subfloor, and luggage rack (over cab). Last I checked there were 160,000 miles. It is running like a dream and the inside camping facilities are pristine.?
