Re: {Disarmed} Gas Tank is releasing dangerous fumes
Dan Phalen
I'll check the files to see if I can find past correspondence. In the meantime thanks for your advice. I don't have the manual, so I really don't know how complicated this might be. Hopefully it's simple and not too expensive :-)

Thanks for the advice, it will be helpful when I take the van into the shop tomorrow. Best to go in with at least some modicum of knowledge.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýPaula, near the bottom of the "Files" is a page for? Eurovan Interior Door Panel Removal The door handle and mechanism itself is not too difficult to deal with once you remove the entire door panel. ?Patience is key - follow the directions and it is quite simple. Replacing lock cylinder in door handle
I have to replace the right side door handle and ordered one on eBay. I need to remove the lock from the old handle and install it in the new handle. I haven't found anything on this in the files. I recall it being written about. Could someone describe this job to me.? I thank you all in advance.? Paula 2001 EVC Oakland, CA |
Re: Chronic Limp Mode - 97 EVC
Thanks, Duckdive and all the others.
I checked and rechecked a bunch possible causes, then rolled the dice last weekend and started a longish trip in limp mode hoping that the tranny would figure itself out, and it did.? After about an hour of driving at 55-60MPH (~2900RPM) she decided to go into overdrive, and stayed out of limp mode until today.? All is good - for the moment.? Duckdive, I did mess with the wires coming out of the connector on the back left side of the transaxel. I've had the connector off multiple times, and have cleaned/inspected both sides etc. But never really focused on the wires coming out of the connector. This might have helped, but I'll never know unless I can repeat the procedure. While I hope not, I imagine I'll get the opportunity, and this will be my focus next time there's a problem. This isn't terribly satisfying from a root cause perspective. Stephan mentioned the ignition switch glitch. I haven't really considered it because it was replaced not long ago. One thing I did learn was a cool trick for cleaning the pins on the TCU and ECU. I used one of my kid's gummy erasers from their school bag.? The softer rubber type that are usually whitish in color.? As I ran it over the pin array, the pins cut into the eraser.? This cut channels into the eraser that fit snugly over the pins the deeper they cut in. The result was very shiny pins, better than any other method I've tried before. I'll update the board over time about the success of this "fix".? Thanks again.? |
Re: 1993 2.5L cutting out on motorway
does it do this more often when the fuels tank is less than 1/2 full? ?A tired fuel pump can be the culprit if this is true. ? When the tank is full, the gasoline around the pump cools it down. ?When near empty, the pump heats up and the pressure at its output drops, resulting in the symptoms you observed. ¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou need to have your evaporative fuel system looked at. Re: {Disarmed} Gas Tank is releasing dangerous fumes
? Hello Dan - readers: This topic has arisen and been discussed within the past year. It is not uncommon for the fuel tank Vent in VW Evs to become filled (clogged) with fuel - this usually occurs when the tank is filled, but additional fuel is (forced to top-off) pumped in (? trying to get to a round $ or whatever)..On Sat, Jun 20, 2015 at 9:46 AM, TYA2 tya2@... Have you considered checking your fuel filter? you are right is sounds like fuel starvation.

Gas Tank is releasing dangerous fumes
A few weeks ago, I smelled gas coming from under my 97 EVC.
I have been unable to find the cause. The smell has been intermittent, three
times over a one-month period. When it comes it is strong, but not
overpowering. I can find no drips under the van or signs of leaks. After a few
hours the smell dissipates. Each time it coincided with a 100 plus mile trip in
hot weather (90 degrees.)
Yesterday I was able to make a diagnosis.? The tank seems to be under considerable pressure.? After yesterdays trip I once again smelled gas. I opened the gas cap and a rush of fumes expelled for a good couple of minutes until it finally stopped. This is the first time I noticed this, though previously I may not have opened the cap until the van had been at rest for several hours. I am assuming that the tank has a pressure release vent that may be clogged. If this is the problem, how do I go about fixing it? But even if this is the problem, why would the tank be pressurized? I would have thought the opposite would occur. And why would the condition be intermittent? I fear that I am driving a time bomb that could literally explode. I won¡¯t be driving until I solve the problem. Does anyone have insight into this problem? I¡¯d appreciate any advice or insights. By the way, I am currently in Santa Fe in case anyone knows of a good shop in this area. ? Thanks, Dan

Re: P1582 idle adaptation 2000 Eurovan MV
I had the same code on my 2000 GLS and tried all the reset procedures, but never cleaned the throttle body. ?I thought the code tripped because I had the battery disconnected for a pretty long period of time. ?Since the van ran fine I just kept driving it and the CEL went out on its own.
