I too. I have appreciated your expertise and pictures of your remarkable craftsmanship. I hope that I will continue to see and hear about your projects in all 3 forums.

Re: House battery for driver's seat with swivel?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Which group size fits with the swivel? The stock battery is too tall.

VW has them for about $100. Sears international battery is also good.

Re: Sound deadening

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I have a couple of rolls of fat mat that I keep around and any time I remove trim or carpet from one of my cars I put it on. I have never just removed trim and carpet to put it down but I find it helps most with rattles and vibration related noises ie don't upgrade your door speakers without putting sound deadener on.?

Sound deadening? I would wing it with something like Dynamat. Not sure that any road or engine noise is reduced by anything in the sound-deadening pan BUT I would throw something down on the pan.

House battery for driver's seat with swivel?

I've been trying to search this group for the best option for a house battery for a Eurovan with a driver's side seat swivel. The search is proving futile so I'll just ask.

What wave people found to be the best solution? (2003 Weekender)

Thanks

Sound deadening

Has anyone in the group replaced the sound deadening in the lower body pan in a late model Eurovan?

I see a listing in VW dealer parts for a replacement- but it doesn't offer a picture or much info.

Mice have wrecked mine- and I am thinking either of getting an OEM replacement or just winging it with off-the-shelf replacement pads/panels/etc.

Amy comments appreciated.

Re: Starting battery being drained when stopped for camping......

Stereo is probably on your starter battery.

Re: Water in folds of pop-up

Actually, in this case it is in the folds of the pop-up. I have felt along the metal track and that will be dry, while within one of the folds there will be water.?

Re: Starting battery being drained when stopped for camping......

Your Stereo runs off your starter battery the same way any car does, so that is what is draining your battery, it usually doesn't take too long either.?

My Euro is 1993 Westfalia. When I stop and camp, both the starting battery and auxiliary become drained if I use my cabin lights and stereo. I am wondering why my starter battery also gets drained. I was sure my starter battery should be protected in this situation??

Heater Flaps

After seeing references to foam spitting out of the vents, I finally pulled my dashboard and looked into the heater.? I saw nice, clean flaps; w/o a trace of foam.

Re: Changing differential gear oil

To check diff oil level in my 99, the plug is behind (above) the pendulum mount.? Easiest to remove the pendulum mount to check and add, but it can be done by not removing it if you have enough extensions to wrench from behind the subframe.? I have not seen a way to drain the differential?? Someone please chime in if you know the secret, other than suction out and replace.? I'd like to drain mine.

Stereo and cabin lights and cig lightrr are on the start battery circuit.

For better camp, jumper the relay connecting the batts as if driving, and disconnect the neg side of the start battery.? This leaves Everything powered by aux battery and start battery disconnected.

Don't like jumpers?? add a switch that forces the connection.

Re: Changing differential gear oil

I worked on a Jetta and installed a golf trans.
To put the oil in, I removed the speedo-sender.

Re: Bench Bleed Master Cylinder?

Unless this condition was present before the brake job I don't see how suddenly you would have a failed brake booster after. Anything is possible but that sounds unlikely.

What brand brake master cyl did you use? If the depth of the "cup" where the push rod from the brake pedal/booster rides is not identical to the master cyl you replaced this could cause this low pedal situation also. Scott mentioned something similar to this in an earlier post.

Also it's possible the rear brakes are incorrectly adjusted. Pull off the rear wheels and check the gap between the rotor and the pads. Should be a barely visible gap present. If a big gap is present here this will cause the pedal to travel some distance before engaging the rotor.

If it needs adjustment ratchet the caliper piston out using the parking brake cable arm at each caliper while rotating the disc until the pads are just barely touching the disc. If a shop did the brake job they should know this procedure and theoretically already have done it.

Best wishes,
Justin

cigarette lighter won't work. Any ideas?

?First, i should tell you I don't smoke. I want the lighter to work because my 21 yr old son is going on a road trip with my beloved 2002 Eurovan camper van. He wants to use a GPS unit, but the cigarette lighter does not work. I have checked fuse 22 (top row, end one on the right), and it was OK, but I replaced it with a new one, and still no power. I have tried to use a volt meter on each side of the fuse, and I get no volts reading across it. Is it possible to have no power going across the fuse?? Everything else in the car seems to be working well.? ?It seems that I may not be reading things right.? However,?I can say, no power at the cigarette lighter, and?the fuse is new. Any suggestions? Can the?cigarrette lighter be bad.? Any tricks on determining if there is power coming out at the box?? thanks, in advance. Russell
