Easy fix of my stalling '93 Eurovan
Over a month ago, my '93 Eurovan (gas, automatic) began stalling constantly at low speeds, while idling, during hard braking, and so on. It was especially bad after a half-hour or so of highway driving. It got so I had to feather the gas during all braking. It also needed a short rest before it would start up again (which led to fun scenarios like frantic cranking while a horn-blaring trucker tries desperately to stop his transport truck from rear-ending the stalled van). Parallel parking was ridiculous, as the engine would die when I shifted into reverse. I'd read a number of threads on this issue that had people changing one thing after another, with a ton of frustration. My fix was so simple that I hesitate to post it, but a mechanic somehow missed identifying it, so just in case this can help someone... There was a break in the short (~ 4") vacuum line that goes to a tee fitted with vacuum lines to the ECU and the pressure regulator. Replacing the short line eliminated the stalling issue. By the way, I'm trying to teach myself automechanics and this was my first-ever repair. (My second was replacing the ignition switch. :) ) I was stoked to have fixed a big problem, but I'm still trying to understand it. Can anyone explain to me why, in its vacuum-leak condition, the van's stalling became worse after some highway driving? Generally it got really bad when the engine temp hit the halfway mark. Thanks. ? |

开云体育Kinda the ongoing problem with this discussion format. Post the pictures in a thread on the CaveVan Eurovan forum. Then people can see/discuss them and easily find the whole topic and pictures in the future. On Jun 26, 2015, at 9:16 PM, Rusty goneyakn@... [ev_update] <ev_update@...> wrote:

Re: Bike Rack for 99 Eurovan
开云体育We have the Yakima swing away and it is great. The drop ones are good but with four bikes it got pretty heavy. My wife can open the gate by herself with the swing away where with the old I always had to do it. It's nice not to have to get out of the hammock to open the tailgate for her :) On Jun 26, 2015, at 11:12 AM, rjbedell@... [ev_update] <ev_update@...> wrote:

Re: Kombi Valve voltage input
Mark Hollingsworth
开云体育I think I goofed. The manual calls is the: Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve -N18-*/** It is the little valve that turns on the EGR. What is the voltage input? On Jun 26, 2015, at 4:29 PM, "Mark Hollingsworth markh@... [ev_update]" <ev_update@...> wrote:

Kombi Valve voltage input
Mark Hollingsworth
My 2000 Eurovan MV has had a EGR flow error code for years (according to previous owner)
I'm trying to fix it. EGR valve itself works fine. Sensor is clean I got the software, so wanted to see if the EGR has any vacuum at all. Running through the test- none. I checked voltage TO the Kombi Valve- it was 5 Vdc during the test. I could not find what the voltage should be. Before I go further (either fixing wiring, external tests of Kombi etc) I need to know what a normal voltage should be. Of course engine is not running, key on, battery fully charged. Running 'Output Tests Screen' in VCDS I'd like to know soon if possible. ( I have a bit of time to repair or order parts) Next, if Kombi valve is bad, best place to get one? Mark |

I seem to recall the differential has separate oil from the transmission.

Re: Norcold's stopped cooling on propane
Hi All,
Thought I'd add my recent experience with a Norcold issue similar to Peet's. About a year ago I removed my frig cleaned the burner box and put in a new burner. Everything was fine until May of this year. The first problem was that the burner would not stay lit. Being kinda lazy I had no desire to pull the frig again. After all it had a new burner. I decided to remove the side panel and blow compressed air into the entire area where the burner box is located. To top it off off I took a metal pipe and tapped the burner box several times to possibly dislodge any blockages. After all that it lit easily and stayed on no problem. Interestingly, the flame would now stay on while driving, even at 70 mph. All was well -- for a while. At the end of May I did an extended trip -- 2 weeks+. Since the propane mode was now worked while driving, I left it on full time for about 10 days. At that point the frig cooling began to falter, from ~35 to 60+. (the burner light was still on and panel light worked too) Could not resolve it with a full tank of LP, so lived with out it for the rest of the trip. When I got home, again being lazy and not wanting to pull the frig. I decided to pull the 2 plastic vents off the side and blow compressed air into both pipes. Then I sucked them out with a strong vacuum cleaner. This resolved the cooling issue, it now works once again to ~35 deg. I have only run it over night, so not sure of the long term results will be. For you technical guy's out there. Do you have any explanations as to what is going on. I wonder if I will eventually need to pull the frig to permanently resolve it. If I do I will replace as many parts as possible -- I hate pulling it out. Well, hope all this will help some EVCer out there. Andrew 2002 EVC Portland OR |
