Re: Top and Canvas for Eurovan

Domokos isn't, but I am. ?Is there something you wanted to ask?

Whirling noise engine compartment

Hello All,

So I took my 2003 Weekender to the dealership for the normal 175k maintenance. I asked them to check for a whirling noise that started about 3-4 months ago. I can hear the noise when cruising at 20+ MPH. It's not audible when the radio is on. My wife calls my fun bus an electric car now.

According to the dealership, the noise is coming from the transmission differential. Since I skipped the last 40k ATF fluid change, I asked them if changing the ATF would help get rid of noise. I was told to save the money and add it to my eventual transmission replacement fund. The transmission shifts as smooth as when I first purchased the EVC back in 2008 with 98k miles on it. Has anyone experienced the noise or similar diagnosis? If so, how many more miles should I expect before the transmission dies? I appreciate any feedback.

Thank you,
--Leo

Fans not working, suggestions for fix

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

?

?

I'm going to try to take a look at the climate control in the '03 MV this weekend.? The symptoms are, the climatronic unit comes un but not matter what I set the fans at there is no air coming out of the vents.? I can try hot or cold and I get nothing.? The rear fan blows a little.? The heat nor AC work and the compressor does not kick on. The rear floor vent kicks on if I turn the heat all the way up.? All the fuses listed in the book are fine.

?

What would be a recommended course of action here to find the problem?

?

Thanks,

Bryan

Re: Bike Rack for 99 Eurovan

My EVC came with 1-1/4" hitch; bought Thule 2 bike rack. ?Easy to take on/off, can swing down to access back. Very happy with choice.

Starting from scratch, go with the 2" hitch (you don't need high load capacity if you don't anticipate towing). ?Then plenty of choices, including "swing-aways" that let you swing fully loaded racks away to access back. Lots of choices but recommend sticking with Thule or Yakima. ?High quality, but more expensive. ?Watch for annual 20% off sales at Eastern Mountain Sports and REI.

Re: Sam's Norcold fix

I did. Easy install.?

?

In my case, "work ok" means that my Norcold flame lit and stayed on and my fridge works fine.? But it?worked fine?before this modification.? Sam's modification is designed to keep the flame?ignition process working?properly for the long term.??After reading his?description of his mod and what it does, my belief is that it will.???

Best,

?

Rick

Sam's Norcold fix

Ok. Many of us have purchased Sam's Norcold fix. Mine's still in the box.

Anyone installed it and had it work ok??

FWIW....? I'd get a hitch installed and a 4 mount hitch rack.? I run that on my 95 EVC and much prefer it since I can fold the bike rack down and get into the back hatch with bikes on the rack.? I found that I do this a lot on trips too.? Also, nothing touches the van body so no scratches etc. ?

Just my $.02

Hello everyone.? Is Fiamma my only real choice?? I need 4 bikes, and I don't think there's a hitch on the camper. ?

If I AM limited to the Fiamma, is there any place that sells them used?? Nothing showed up on Craigslist near me, and eBay ha the same prices as bus depot. ?

Re: Bike Rack for 99 Eurovan

A 2" hitch isn't horribly expensive and just bolts right in very easily with no modifications, then you can get any bike rack you want or possibly already have, otherwise Fiamma is the only back mounted type 4 bike rack I have seen on a Eurovan

Re: syncro spare tire modification

I thought of this too, but gave it up.? Partly because the bike?rack? that I use will no longer work.? And because apparently there are internal mods that need to be done to the C pillar to support the extra weight.? These require welding and painting.? The pics I saw on a German website showed that it can be done and look seemless.? But it is?too much work for me..? Add to this, that the bike rack with 4 bikes makes access to the rear? under bed storage difficult.? I'm going to move the spare inside that area, once I install the rear differential.

I'm over in Port Angeles and have the VAG-COM and learning a fair amount about VW Specific systems.
Unless I happen over your way, not too likely.

I am on Vashon Island (near Seattle, but no bridge equals "must be way out there somewhere") - there is one VW factory trained mechanic on the island, I hope he will be able to figure everything out. If he can't, knowing who is best with Eurovans in Seattle will also be useful!

Re: Timing belt as preventative maintenance?

I bought my '02 Weekender on Bainbridge Island, and the previous owner said he like and used Triangle Import Repair?in Bremerton for all major work:

I'm in San Francisco and don't have any personal experience with that shop, but it might be worth giving them a call -- tell them the bright red Weekender from Bainbridge Island referred you :)
