I agree that's a smart place to check (forget the enrichment stuff). ?When the conveter is cold try tapping it with a rubber mallet and listen for loose pieces. ?You can also hear loose pieces at idle in certain situations.

Your problem may be as simple as changing the catalic converter. So you are
cruising down, with 70, then a broken piece clogs the exhaust in you
muffler, and then when you turn your engine off everything returns to
normal. Is that it?
I had something like that before. The catalic converter sometimes breaks in
little pieces, and clogs the muffler. One way to know that your exhaust is
clogged is that your RPM drops down much slower than it did before from
5-6000 to 1000
