I submitted this question earlier but I guess it never made it out of my
mailbox.
I smell gasoline from the engine compartment of my 93 5cyl EV. I have
replaced all fuel lines, even the tiny connector lines, yet the smell
persists. I have two guesses, both related to the vapor recovery
system. Either my charcoal canister is releasing the fumes, instead of
trapping them and they somehow get into the engine compartment, or it is
the little black magnetic valve on the firewall that opens to release
the fumes into the injection system. It could also possibly be a
leaking injector seal, but the smell is on the right side, the side
where the battery is located. I have tried to pin it down but I can't
find the source. Does anyone have any ideas? Not knowing where the
fumes come from makes me a bit nervous, since I only carry a small fire
extinguisher.
I hope someone knows the answer . . .
thanks
Eckhard
