Joel and Kent,
The high altitude kit vent is supposed to be mounted exactly where you've
described that yours (Joel's) is located. It is located directly BELOW the
single combined intake/exhaust vent that Kent has on his EVC, on the flat
surface of the body panel. Kent --- drop by a dealer and take a look at a
new EVC to see exactly where it is located. Better yet, just have the
dealer install the kit for you. Its my understanding that the retrofit on
the '97's is free (at least that's what mine cost earlier this year, and
others have subsequently also had that experience).
As for exact location, if you decide to install it yourself Kent, mine is
exactly 17" below the original single vent (center to center dimension).
Good luck.

The high-altitude kit came already installed on my 97 EVC. The second
vent is mounted on the flat surface of the body panel, not on the seam,
and is vertically aligned with the other vent. My understanding from
other posts to this list is that the vent mounts above the existing
vent, which, unfortunately, places it right under the window, but that
is how it was designed.
