Re: Eurovan cv joints/axle

I recently did the right side full axle on my 2000 Eurovan myself. ?Much of it was straightforward. ?The most difficult part, where I wished I had a helper, was getting the inner CV lined up and bolted - since the axle grease on that side is exposed, it's hard to get it lined up w/o smearing grease all over, and I'm pretty sure you do not want to get axle grease on the CV joint bolts, since that causes the torque to be off when you tighten.

Sadly, after doing this replacement, the noise I was chasing did not go away. ?So either the noise is coming from one of the left side CV joints, or somewhere else (in the half shaft?)

I have done outer CV joints and full drive axles on my Eurovans. ?I woudn't say that they are any harder than on most vehicles but do require some knowhow and?muscle. ?I did a drivers side on my 2002 full drive axle recently and it took me about 3 hours (having already done one a few years ago). ?you need the 12pt. tool (i forget?the size, maybe 8mm) and I needed a small pry bar for the transmission side. ?It took some wrestling but wasn't overly frustrating. ?I would recommend a full axle?replacement (I got a quality lobro one for under $400 online) instead of pulling them and rebuilding the CV's.
hope that helps
