The group number is right in the middle of the crease on the right side of your label. The number is after the word "GRUND". Looks like a '2', but you should verify.

Bob, I've posted this in begreen's 95EVC album. It was a booger to photograph. Some perverse worker put this label in so it could not be read. I had to peel it back gently so that it was visible. It is at:

In my experience with two dealers, this is not something a dealer can be

The first thing to do is to find your group number. It is on the label plate
on or near your fuse box and in the first page of the owner's service
schedule manual filed with the owner's manual. Send me a picture of that
and I will tell you what your group number is and what the height should be,
and where to measure it. Then you tighten or loosen the nut on each torsion
bar to raise the front of the van. Then you roll the van back and forth,
perhaps a couple of feet in the driveway, to let the van settle, then check
measurement and adjust again if necessary. Then you get the alignment
checked.

Looks like I may be having to do this too. Our van has a decided downhill
look to it when viewed from the side. I read through Bentley's on the topic
and it made my head hurt. Is there an executive summary? Is this something
that is better to have done at the dealers?

Hi Carl

I was typing a message to you and think it got sent before I finished. My
mechanic took a picture of it and sent it to me today. I think it is an 8
also.

thanks for your help. Now I guess I need the instructions from the Bentley
Manuel which I think that Bob is sending me.

Boy I love this list and the people on it.

Gail,

I have a 2001 EVC and I should think the group number is the same as
your 2002. I am on the road (not in the EVC), so I don't have the number
with me, but will get it to you ASAP.

When I got my EVC, one of the first things I did was check the front
ride height against the Bentley manual specs and found that the height was
low. I raised the front up to spec and the ride improved. There was no EVC
side to side lean after the front level. The tire to wheel arch distance is
the same for both rear wheels.

Thanks for the responses about the shocks, and the chuckles that
went with the responses... I have bought from Steve before and I checked out
with the mechanic today and will order them tomorrow morning and have them
sent directly there. I have heard that it will make the ride a little
rougher, but come on just having this EVC has been a little rough...

Bob Williams said he would tell me about the proper way to level the
van as soon as I get him the correct numbers. I did have something that told
me that but it was so long ago, I can't find it. Any other ideas/

Again, thanks, Gail

Second the motion!
Europarts-sd has been great @ customer service for years.

The HD Bilstiens are great , although we did explode one(in 10
minutes)on the road from St Ignacio town (Baja Sur) to the lagoon 60km. of
washboard, the manufactures warranty was void on unimproved roads. I think I
lost a filling also on that trip. Same warranty problem!

Gail,
My 95 EVC got a new set of the HD Bilsteins last summer. They
are a bit on the stiff side but I still believe they are the best option,
especially if you go with oversize tires and lift, as I did. My van often
finds itself on washboards and frost-heaved roads, with full road trip load,
and the HD shocks can be a big plus in those situations.

I bought my shocks from Steve at Europarts-sd. His price was
competitive and service, as always, was quite good. Steve will work with me
to find the best shipping option, which is unusual. I live in Alaska and the
cost of shipping often exceeds the cost of the merchandise, so this extra
service is valuable to me. I buy from Steve or other "list vendors" even
when I might save a few bucks elsewhere.(This is seldom the case).
Supporting the vendors that have supported this group helps insure that they
will be around to keep us rolling, as our vans go into their golden years.
My two cents for good Karma.

Hi all

Been a long time since I've been here, but I'm still around
with my 2002 EVC. Looks like I will need new front shocks, are you all
still recommending Bilsteins and if so where is the best place to buy them
at the lowest cost?

Also there was a set of directions for how to level the EVC to
compensate for the weight that the refrig, propane, built-ins, etc. make for
the left side, or drivers side to sit lower and not level with the right
side of the van. I looked for this in the files but most are so old that
they are really hard to read.

My mechanic said that the drivers side front tire is scraping
and he is going to check about shocks, etc and leveling and would be open to
my supplying new shocks for him to install and would follow the directions
for the leveling the van. He will call me tomorrow morning with an estimate
from his place and to get any info you can offer.

I'm so glad this list still exists and I tell everybody who
asks me about my evc to join here. I have not been around much cause I get
totally caught up in reading everybodys posts and get nothing else done.
Oh well. Appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks,

Gail in Mill Valley, CA
