My feeling after all this time and all these miles is I would replace all these usual parts and carry some of the originals as spares on longer or more isolated trips, much as a child might carry his blankie!

Try changing a tire with the equipment you carry in front of your house first! Try to tighten some nuts and bolts with the equipment you carry in front of your house. I carry: Plastic sheet for the ground. Leather gloves & pliers. Small folding shovel all the times. Full size shovel when going more seriously off the pavement. Bailing Wire. Duct tape. Zipties. Octane boost; sometimes in Mexico you get low octain gas. Tow strap with hooks. Jumper cables. Triple Square Tools! Breaker bar with 3/4" deep socket;Try to change a tire with the stock socket! Non-AC fan belt as I am sure that that is the only reason my AC compressor has not failed yet! Serp w/AC belt and idlers: Second set going in today; I keep 1 of each type of the old idlers and the old belt. Fan link fuses: Replaced & I have some in toolbox. They are cheap and small. I have replaced the Ignition switch. I don't carry one because to "geri_rig it" is similar to R&R on the road. I have replaced my Coil; old one dead so I don't carry it. I have replaced hall sensor; I carry the old one. I have replaced all the vacuum lines; I carry a 2'piece because I seem to occasionally find an old piece I missed! I have blown & replaced the Bilstiens; I carry 1 of each. Before a big trip I do a serious bolt check; Lug nuts, axle bolts, shock mounts, cv bolts, ball joints, control arm nuts. Fluids of course. I HATE working on the road, but I have done a fair amount of it. In retrospect, almost all of my previous problems could have been avoided with proper due diligence! I have blown a cv joint but I would not carry an axle. Happy trails! M&M --- In ev_update@..., "bullfrogxyz" <jeremiahmann@...> wrote:
