Re: Direwolf Issues with Mobilinkd TNC4

I received the Digirig and tested it with a handheld and the proper cable. I set the audio and it hasn't quit working. I like it so much, I ordered a cable for an old Icom 2700 to make it a permanent installation.?

Thanks for getting me through that one ?

Re: Anyone Successfully Running NOAACAP?

Edited

Now that the script is running, I see alerts being sent as messages:?

The K2IE git doesn't illustrate how the output should behave, so I'm a bit confused. For those using NOAACAP, when these messages go out, shouldn't I be able to receive and view them on a handheld? ?I'm just not getting them and my FT5D receives other messages coming from my digi.?

Hello Dave,

Thank you for the report on the ALSA fixes and now we wait for the downstreams to get this important fix.? I imagine that will take a long time to happen so a lot of people will get impacted.

To the second part of your email, it's phrased in such a way that's rather confusing to me.? It seems you have a an ARM-based Wandboard machine, an Intel Atom based machine, yet then ask about "Pi 32bit".?? Direwolf natively supports the Raspberry PI via the direct "GPIO" directive.? For example:

?? --
?? PTT GPIO 25
?? --

I suppose this is considered "static" but this is actively supported from the Raspberry Pi foundation.? That said, I take it you're looking for Direwolf support of non-Raspberry Pi ARM based GPIO access methods?

My current problem is finding the GPIO connection for PTT control of a Yaesu radio (PTT GPIO_19). The linux boot record shows a number of GPIO chips (0-6) and a dynamic allocation (MMIO?) "gpio gpiochip0: Static allocation of GPIO base is deprecated, use dynamic allocation." which may negate the DIrewolf interface. Is there anyone running a similar ARM system (PI 32 bit)?

I'm using Direwolf with a Digirig Mobile for my APRS Digi/iGate. It's been working great.

Re: Direwolf Issues with Mobilinkd TNC4

Hi Rob -

Thanks for the heads-up. I ordered the Digirig Mobile. Apologies for any confusion caused by my calling it a Digilink. Currently, I plan to use it at 1200 baud and perhaps one day dive into VARA @ 9600.?

Re: Direwolf Issues with Mobilinkd TNC4

I am confident the DigiLink documentation will give some good information on how to setup PTT.

Are you referring to the DigiLink Nano interface?
I did a quick look and the documentation shows it using the 1200 baud pin for receive audio.
However, it does appear to come with a pigtail (BYOC bundle) that you could wire to use for reception of higher data rates.
if you are thinking of higher baud rates, I'd recommend the two radio bundle.

There are many different radio interface variations that can be used.
If anything is missing from this Radio Interface Guide, let me know so it can be improved.

Re: Direwolf Issues with Mobilinkd TNC4

So your real issue is not that of using the Mobilinkd TNC4 with Direwolf, but generating a PTT signal for your radio using Direwolf on a Raspberry Pi.

When using a soundcard interface and a Raspberry Pi, there are a number of PTT options:
1. Using the Pi GPIO with a small interface board with a resistor and transistor to control the PTT.
? ? Downside of this method is you have to connect the PTT and Ground from the Data Jack or Mic input to 2 separate areas:
? ? ? ? USB sound card and Pi GPIO.
2. Sound card IO - simplest is using special interfaces like the DINAH (Lynn's suggestion).
? ? There are many posts of modifying a CM108 style USB sound card for GPIO PTT.? The DINAH does that for you.
? ? This eliminates the separate GPIO connection as it is built into the interface, but is controlled differently in the Direwolf.conf file.
3. Sound card that does it own PTT (pseudo VOX) like the SignaLink-USB
? ? (or regular SignaLink with a separate sound card)
4. CAT control - for those radios that allow it.? Most radios with HF, VHF, and UHF capability allow this.
? ? Much fewer VHF or dual band VHF/UHF radios have PTT over CAT capability.
5. VOX - some radio allow VOX on the data jack.? Depending on how much control over the VOX settings, this may be an option.
? ? Some do not have a quick enough turnaround from PTT to receive to capture the immediate responses that are sometimes used in packet.

I use a DINAH USB audio device that also provides PTT for the radio.? It was originally designed for Allstar, but with a simple trace cut to disable auto-level-adjust or something like that, it works great as an audio interface on a Pi for Direwolf.

Re: Direwolf Issues with Mobilinkd TNC4

Just to add to WG0A’s comment, in the video replies, Jason adds:?
“Direwolf is a software TNC and TNC4 is a hardware TNC. You can’t use two TNCs at the same time”

Re: Direwolf Issues with Mobilinkd TNC4

Direwolf, like the Mobilinkd is designed to connect to the audio of a radio and decode AX.25 packets.

Rather than hooking the Mobilinkd up to direwolf, you probably want to look at an APRS program designed to connect up to a kiss interface. As an example, you may want to look at Xastir. Here's a video that goes through connecting the Mobilinkd up to Xastir.?

Hope that helps,

Thank you Douglas.? My intention was to use the Mobilinkd to key the radio.? I am open to any interface at this point.? In the end, all I would like to accomplish is to connect from a Raspberry Pi to a handheld radio and make a small fill-in digi. It did work with Xastir, but I'd prefer to use it with Dire Wolf so I can send weather warnings.

It can't be that hard :)

Re: Direwolf Issues with Mobilinkd TNC4

From what I understand that Direwolf is a TNC that uses sound devices.? You can't interface another TNC device (like the Mobilink or KPC's) with Direwolf.

I believe the SERIALKISSPOLL is only to interface Direwolf with terminal software like YAAC or Xastir.?

Hope this helps.? Good luck in your experiments.?

Direwolf Issues with Mobilinkd TNC4

Hey All -?

Trying to use a Mobilinkd Tnc 4 to connect Direwolf to my radio as a digi.? Following the steps in the guide, "Build a Bluetooth KISS TNC with a Raspberry Pi and Dire Wolf", all steps were followed and everything appears to test OK.? Where I'm getting confused is what do I enter for the sound device and where to edit in the direwolf.conf for the program to execute properly.
?
Some info:
?
Using hcitool scan revealed my TNC 4 with no issues: 34:81:F4:AA:....? ? ? ?TNC4 Mobilinkd
Systemctl status bluetooth and rfcomm shows Active status
I have added SERIALKISSPOLL /dev/rfcomm0 to the direwolf.conf file
?
?
This is the output when I try to launch Direwolf:
?
Dire Wolf version 1.6
Includes optional support for:? cm108-ptt
?
Reading config file direwolf.conf
Config file: Warning serial port name on line 126 replaces earlier value.
Audio device for both receive and transmit: default? (channel 0)
Could not open audio device default for input
No such file or directory
Pointless to continue without audio device.
?
Line 126: SERIALKISSPOLL /dev/rfcomm0
?
I'm lost.? Any guidance would be most appreciated.? I did read the big user guide and could not find anything that would help.

Tnx es 73,
