I suspect the issue is best explained in section 9.2.7 of the Direwolf manual where it says

Only error-free frames are digipeated or passed along to an APRTS-IS server. Propagating possibly
corrupt data would not be acting responsibly. Note that these frames are passed along to attached
applications. If they pass along data to someone else, it could be corrupt.

So here’s what I built. A Pi, a USB sound card, my Baofeng HT and the official mic cable. There are a lot of variations on this on the web. Here’s where I’m at.

Using a 2nd HT I can listen to my direwolf instance.

Direwolf sends out its own beacon (N6RJB-10) every 30 min. I can hear the packet go out on my 2nd HT. I can see this on??as being picked up by another local digipeater.

I can see in the log, Direwolf is hearing lots of nearby APRS traffic

The problem I’m having is when direwolf repeats packets that it hears, I only hear a key up but no digital tone. Obviously nothing shows up on??either.

I’ve checked the various software volumes, and I know it sends the test tones and it can send its own beacon just fine. I’m stumped why only the digipeater portion of direwolf has this problem. Has anyone run into this? The digipeater in the config file only has one default option and thats the?DIGIPEAT?line.

I have not enabled the internet gateway yet because I want to keep the testing isolated to RF for now.

This is what the log shows when its reporting, looks correct

I feel like it’s setup correctly because the test tones are loud and clear AND its own beacon works perfectly. I just dont know why I’m not repeating.

I have Kam v8.0e, Kam+ v8.0, 2x KWM9612+ v3.0, AEA PK232 MBX and a PK-88.

Are you trying to use the BBS built into the TNC or setting one up external to the TNC in software on the Pi?

Yes. Is there a better way to use these old TNC's?

Since DW effectively duplicates and supersedes? the capability of the Kantronics TNC, are you just planning to use the Kantronics as a radio interface, or do you really want to use the capabilities of the Kantronics TNC and just use the software on the pi as a TNC interface?

Our club BBS is right now on a KAM+ via a Win8.1 computer that is running an Outpost PMM program.? The project is for an local EMCOMM and the reason we want to try the RPI approach is due to it's low current consumption compared to a computer or laptop.? Programs like a BBS for RaspbianOS might be an issue.? Clients can also avail the use of RPi, a modified USB Soundcard, a DW, linpac and a handheld.? Well, that's the plan.? The challenge is running the BBS on these TNCS's on a Pi.? I tried the linBPQ on the Pi but I find it very complex.? The config file has a lot to offer but so complex to get it right on what you want, that's just for me perhaps.

Digipeating on the Baofeng is fast becoming a failed experiment for me. Luckily my antenna is inside a building covered in stucco? over wire. The signal is not heard very far and AFAICT, there are no other repeaters functioning in the area. I am looking for a replacement for the soundcard that will not require VOX or just turn it into an igate. I would like to find out why I have have packets out on beacon, but not digipeat.

'Raspberry Pi' and 'BBS' should have its own related 'Subject' line. At least something other than 'IC-7100 on RPi3B not keying.'

I totally agree, but not on this group IMHO.

I have used my IC-7100 and Raspberry Pi with G8BPQ's pilinbpq.

Would you mind sharing your configuration file?? I have no success with it.

Packets are transmitted when beaconing. I hear them on other radios. When digipeating, I there is only an empty signal. There is a transmission, but no packets. I got rid of the buzz by using 2 turns of the Baofeng cable cound card on a ferrite close to the radio.
