Re: RELS Parts info

Hi Charlie, The ELS was developed on the E-Leadscrew group as a collaborative effort and is 100% open source. In fact it started out with a surface mount processor and single axis control with built

Re: RELS Parts info

Just to add my two cents worth... I think we are comparing two different systems here. RELS was designed to make it fairly easy for a hobbyist to construct, modify, and upgrade a system themselves

I cannot remember it was a long time ago as you say in the days of the parallel port. First the RELS does not use 7 segment LEDs and secondly both your system and the ELS need button presses to get

Re: RELS Parts info

Since the ELS came with a built in programmer that just required free software and a parallel port connection I'm not sure why you'd have a PICkit. In the very near future my ELS will use the

We are not "re-programming" with new parameters we are loading the initial software for that particular machine. Once it is done it is done, and it costs nothing in software or materials. By the way

Re: RELS Parts info

I still think that using a spreadsheet and then reprogramming the the processor with new parameters is so clumsy. That's why my ELS was designed with a screen and 35 buttons instead of a few buttons

It really is not difficult! If you have an imperial screw say 16tpi enter the pitch as 1.5875mm,10tpi 2.54mm as the pitch is 0.1in A PhD is not needed Richard wrote:

Richard. Many thanks for your inputs to this forum. invaluable. Although I already have a RELS ( was # ELS) up an running,? I can immediately see the benefits of improvements to the electrical design

If you are not putting a stepper on the X axis then a left, neutral, right Joystick is adequate plus you do not need the forward and back limit buttons with led's. Richard

Re: servo or stepper?

I have two steppers on my Gingery lathe. The cross slide is an old surplus size 23 with very low torque so it can't move very fast. The Z axis has 280 oz-in. Both run on 48V supply and external

I have a joystick to use on my wood lathe but want something more compact to attach to the front of my mini lathe, which will also be single-axis. How necessary will the up and down functions be?

For those that have built a working ELS/RELS for the 7x mini lathe, are you using steppers for the lead screw or servos? If servos please reply with specs and source. Any progress on a parts list?
