Re: RELS Parts info #RELS

Since the ELS came with a built in programmer that just required free software and a parallel port connection I'm not sure why you'd have a PICkit. In the very near future my ELS will use the ds30Loader software and a serial port (or USB to RS232 dongle).

I still don't understand why any tolerates a few 7 segment LEDs when 4x20 or 2x40 displays are so inexpensive. And scrolling continuously through numeric menus. It's like being in the early 70's from a user interface perspective. ;-)

We are not "re-programming" with new parameters we are loading the
initial software for that particular machine.
Once it is done it is done, and it costs nothing in software or materials.
By the way do you know anyone that wants to buy a "Pickit_2" that I
needed to buy to be able to reprogram your ELS when I had it?
I do not need it anymore!<G>
All the best

I still think that using a spreadsheet and then reprogramming the the
processor with new parameters is so clumsy.

That's why my ELS was designed with a screen and 35 buttons instead of
a few buttons and a numeric display. It has what HP called SoftKeys
which are 4 buttons right under the LCD display and the second line of
the menu defines what the keys do.

Here where you set up your leadscrew you can choose if it's metric or
imperial.

Imperial select how you want to enter in the size

Or by pitch

Or as metric.

It really is not difficult! If you have an imperial screw say 16tpi
enter the pitch as 1.5875mm,10tpi 2.54mm as the pitch is 0.1in

A PhD is not needed

re:? "ease of using the new design spreadsheets"

There might be ease for those that know what the hell they are
doing but for others like myself

there is mostly confusion.

Especially for converting to inch lead screws.

As I get closer to actually trying to implement motorized
leadscrews I am going to have so many questions.

At the moment I am close to having my new spindle motor installed
and working.

Still "thinking" of how to do the leadscrew's? motors.

Many thanks for your inputs to this forum. invaluable.
Although I already have a RELS ( was # ELS) up an running,? I
can immediately see the benefits of improvements to the
electrical design and ease of using the new design spreadsheets,
A big well done to Charlie L , he has just completed a RELS
build for the mini lathe,
