¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI have two steppers on my Gingery lathe.? The cross slide is an old surplus size 23 with very low torque so it can't move very fast.? The Z axis has 280 oz-in.? Both run on 48V supply and external modules using the LMD18245 stepper drivers. ? ? My Southbend only has a single motor on the Z axis with 2:1 driven by the internal micro stepper driver that is part of the ELS.? Also using the LMD18245s.? However, although it has more than enough torque I wouldn't mind faster motion so I am thinking of installing an AC Servo on the lead screw and moving the stepper across to the cross slide.? The SB already has a taper attachment and if I wanted power cross feed plus the telescoping X axis lead screw so I've not been motivated to add the cross slide motor.? And the ELS works so well for boring to depth which I do often that I've not needed to do it.? The LCD 40x2 display tells me when to retract and insert the cross or compound for threading and how much for each pass. ?So it's no brain work. ? ? John Dammeyer "ELS!
