Re: #3D #3D

I am curious about the time it took to print the job, but how much time did it take you to create the file?
I have only 3d printed once at my makerspace, and files that were already created.

What does Mod 1.5 2 indicate?? Is this your file name?

One can never have enough boxes...?

Re: #3D #RELS #3D #RELS

I¡¯m still not at that stage! The hardware¡¯s nearly complete - I just need to mount a couple things on the panel inside the enclosure and connect everything but have been busy rewiring other stuff in the shop first, since that lathe¡¯s not set up yet.
?
Note that one of the just visible plugs on the side is USB, since I anticipate having to rework the code in steps. I¡¯ll be mostly subtracting from the original sketch to make it very simple, probably stripping away features anyone else will want.
?
?
I had a lot of misfires on the first Arduino project I did, plugging into a Consew motor controller, I think it was from long cables and just using the built in resistors for the push buttons. That¡¯s part of what motivated me to upgrade to more organized wiring on the other machines. But boy, some of those enclosures are expensive!

For those interested in the Gear reduction modification, I will be preparing step by step guides?
of the conversion with the help of forum members C Levinski USA and B McDowell Australia.
If you have a 3D printer even better, but a standard mill with a rotary table will more than suffice.

I believe that is an example of what were called "Mad leet skillz." I'm still trying to figure out how to extrude a cylinder in SolidWorks. No skillz here. ;)

Though I got involuntarily retired Friday, so maybe I'll find time to do some more practicing.

Re: #MISC #MISC

Parallel jaw pliers are essential for some things, and they can be hard to find in ordinary hardware stores. Best place I know to get them new is:

https://www.riogrande.com/searchresults#t=products&sort=relevancy&layout=card&numberOfResults=36&f:categoryfilter=[Tools%20%26%20Equipment,Pliers%20%26%20Cutters,Pliers,Parallel%20Pliers]

I've got two or three pair bought used. Last pair was $3, missing one of the pivots.

Good tools don't make the mechanic, but they do make the mechanic's job easier and often more pleasant.

Again scary with a 100 mm dia chuck fitted. But the bottom end torque is amazing with the Gear reduction.
Also step by step information fitting the new ally gears.?

New H/L mini lathe gears.

Recently? cut new aluminium H/L headstock gears, I replaced the nylon gears to steel some years ago,?

after breaking several sets, the?steel worked OK but were very noisy.

The new "ally" gears cut are a smidge larger in tooth contact to take up the back lash between teeth.
Hope to strip the lathe down and fit gears when it gets warmer, to cold here to tinker at this moment.

See photo, hope?of interest.
