Wow! What an amazing level of engagement from the ARRL public
information
volunteer
community. You
all really
showed up for
ham radio. We
were blown
away at how
many people
participated
in the live
workshop this
week.
?
The response was overwhelming, and we hit a limit
we didn*t
realize was in
place on the
Zoom account.
Interest in
this event was
at levels
we*ve not
before
encountered.
?
I know many
who had
registered
were unable to
attend live.
We are happy
to provide you
with this
recording of
the event as
well as
directly
answer any
questions you
have. We*re
going to make
sure there is
unlimited
capacity for
the next
workshop.

Here is the [PDF]
?
The kit
contains
everything we
went over in
the workshop,
and all the
resources you
need to
promote your
club*s Field
Day activation
including:
-
Publicity tip
sheet
- Sample media advisory and press release
-
Sample
proclamation
-
Fact sheets
-
Social media

The
contains a lot
of useful
assets, such
as the logo
and a
publicity
poster you can
print out and
customize for
your event.

Also, the full line of 2025 ARRL Field Day merch
is available:

We are excited for this year*s Field Day. The
underscores
what amateur
radio does. It
connects us to
our local
areas and
around the
world, it
connects us
between
generations,
it connects us
in person
through ham
radio clubs,
and it
connects the
next
generation of
engineering
leaders with a
real-world
application of
hands-on STEM
activities
that will keep
them engaged
with radio and
wireless
technology.
?
Radio Connects, and we are delighted to empower
you to tell
that story in
your local
community this
ARRL Field
Day!

In the spirit of keeping this multi
club effort as club neutral as possible,
I first proposed W9ET, but Matthew KD9DZT said lets get a special
event call!
The response to that was overwhelming!? So again wanted it as
short as possible.
In addition it's phonetic doesn't sound like any other letter so
no confusion there.
So the main call we will use will be N9N, November Nine November.
Ray WX4RAY our GOTA station said his call is terrible here in
Wisconsin,
And asked if it was OK to use the W9ET since it was not going to
be used.
I had no problem, so the GOTA will use W9ET.

YES! Not bad for just a 40 Meter
Vertical!
KA9FOX was the only one that beat me in Wisconsin and 9 Land!
So I took
2nd in Wisconsin
2nd in 9 Land
18th in the USA
and 30th in the whole world!
Fun Contest.

How about N9N?
Mathew KD9DZT
Whats everyone think
of Matthew's suggestion of a one by one call?
I Like it!
A one-by-one call sign consists of a single prefix
letter (K, N, or W), the region number (0 to 9), and a
single suffix letter (A to Z, except the letter X).
There are 750 such call signs.
so we would be something nine something
I just digested their database and so far it's pretty
open only calls used up so far are.
So what do we want to use?
I suggest we start with the November prefix N9?
Of the N, W, K,? "N" has the smallest weight.

GOTA station call:
While I do enjoy the face that my call could be used, there are a few issues I see with this:
1, length WX4RAY does just roll off my tongue, I*m used to it and I like it. Not so much for others to say it though
2, 4 land call, during the WI QSO party, I notice no one wanted to come back to me because I don*t have a common to WI call sign, those calling with beam antennas will try to point towards VA instead of WI
3, length, applying the same principles as you did with the club call, my call sign is way to weighted to use for a GOTA station
4, license, I hold a general license and can only use general frequencies, if I can use an extra call, I can have more access to frequencies to make calls for those that do want to Get On The Air

Instead of the official ones, Whiskey Bravo nine Fox-trot Delta Zulu,
Like 50% of the calls were people asking for repeats! All this repeating consumed up a LOT of time.
Often the amount of time used to get the call understood,
was so long they could have made one or two more contacts!
In addition, I have been trying my hardest to keep this group Field Day as "CLUB" neutral as possible!
It's already leaning towards Yellow Thunder because of using their Field Day Site this year.
So Using their call is pushing it even further. I don't feel that is fair to the other clubs.
We want a call that is neutral to all the clubs. And good for Contesting.? What makes a call good for Contesting?
Look at these records. These are the winners over several years. What is common of ALL of them?
<scores.jpg>
It's the Calls! They are all SHORT! None are longer than 4 digits. Some only 3!
There are many reasons for this but the two most important is Speed!?
And less digits to get across accurately. You have to admit the Call Papa three alfa
is must faster to say than Whiskey Bravo nine Fox-trot Delta Zulu.
And being only 3 digits long less to get copied. Or copied wrong!
I propose we use the DZC Call W9ET.? Say this out loud,,,
Whiskey Bravo nine Fox-trot Delta Zulu
Whiskey nine echo tango.
Speed! FDZ has a Call weight of 80
ET is 41 it's roughly half the size!
Yes W9ET is a "Club" Call, but not in the usual way. It is a special interest club call.
A Contesting Club Call.? DZC = "Driftless Zone Contesters"
It is a special interest Contest club. it is NOT affiliated with any club. Like Baraboo, Richland Center,
Watertown, Mauston etc.
BUT there are members of those clubs that ARE members of DZC.
DZC has members from about 20 different general interest clubs. From All of Wisconsin,
1/2 of Minnesota,
3/4 of Iowa,
1/2 of Illinois,
1/2 of Michigan.
It's FAST on Phone, it's also FAST on CW!
So I propose we use W9ET for the call.
What do we want to use for the groups name? Don't want Yellow thunder or any other clubs name again.
Driftless Area Field Day?
Anyone got a good name?

That was gonna be my next topic once
we decide what Class we will be in.
So far after a weeks time only two have answered the 5A or 6A
question.
Please gang answer that.
I was gonna wait till this is decided on.
But since you brought up the subject, about call, expect an e mail
about that in a few minutes.

OK things really didn't change after the
re-doing of the ummm Survey because of the
Numbering Issue.
People just swapped numbers more or less.? So it
still came out to be a 4.25 rating.
OK so decision time. Be sure to vote!
Do we want to be 6A and just go with it no
matter how many we actually have on the air?

Do we want to do the 5A and have a floater that
can fill in when someone stops.

My Number as you probably would guess is a 5.?
Actually I'm more like a 6 or 7 if that was
possible.
Of the 15 that replied, we averaged out at a
4.25! NICE!

Now time for some strategy.
At this moment, we have 6 HF Stations.
a GOTA Station, (does not count for # of
Transmitters)
The VHF/UHF Station, (Which also does not
count as a Transmitter.)
Now Looking at last years results. We'd be in
6A Class.
There was no one from Wisconsin that entered
so one contact and we'd take 1st place in
Wisconsin.
1st Place in 9 Land (WI, IL, IN.) made 249
contacts, We can beat that easily!
1st Place in the country Not so much, We'd
have to make an average of 700 QSO's at each
station!
Not likely,
Now if we make one of our 6 transmitters a
floater. Like when someone takes a break this
floater gets on.
so we'd be in Class 5A
In Class 5A The winner in 1st place in

And they have a goal I think we can beat 200

someone takes a break this floater gets on.
so we'd be in Class 5A
In Class 5A The winner in 1st place in Wisconsin also was the
winner of 9 Land.
And they have a goal I think we can beat 200 contacts at each
station average.
And to win 5A for the whole country? each station would have to
average 397 QSO's
I feel we could do that.
What do you all think?
Nice Feeling eh?

Hello Everyone.
I wanna get a feeling of whats everyone's Personal Goals for
Field Day are.
Not sure if the term "Goals" is the correct term, but Can't
think of anything better.
What Number best fits your personal wants for Field Day for
you.
Fractional numbers are also OK, like say you best fit as a 4.5
person.
5- It's a Contest!
Make as many contacts as possible a personal or club challenge
to rack up QSOs.
Try to beat last years efforts. Or try to beat other clubs
from all across the country.
Yeah yeah the ARRL says it is NOT a contest, (Wink Wink) But
if making contacts are worth
"Points" and you publish "Results" of who made more points
than others, Sorry,
IT'S A CONTEST and I'm gonna try my best to make
us the highest score possible!
Improve personal skills 每
like logging speed, pileup management, antenna setup.
Achieve a personal record 每 more QSOs than last year, trying a
new mode, etc.
Earn points for your club
每 most groups compete for top scores in their class.
4- Shit Hit The Fan!
Test emergency
communication skills 每 setting up and operating off-grid under
simulated emergency conditions.
Set up a portable station
每 practicing quick deployment of antennas, radios, power
systems (solar, batteries, generators).
3- I've Never Done
This Before!
Try out different bands
and modes 每 HF, VHF, digital, CW, voice, etc.
Experiment with new
equipment 每 antennas, radios, digital interfaces, logging
software.
Engage with club members 每
team-building, shared learning, and camaraderie.
Elmer new operators 每 helping new or younger hams learn the
ropes in a real-world scenario.
Troubleshoot in the field
每 identifying weak spots in your setup and learning to fix
them under pressure.
2- Hello John Q
Public
Promote ham radio to the
public 每 Field Day often includes demonstrations for non-hams.
Even try to get visitors to "GOTA"
1- I'm Here!
I'm an extra Body. I will help anyway I can, but no specific
duty or thing.
I'm Here Just to have

Hi Y'all!
OK things really didn't change after the re-doing of the ummm
Survey because of the Numbering Issue.
People just swapped numbers more or less.? So it still came out to
be a 4.25 rating.
OK so decision time. Be sure to vote!
Do we want to be 6A and just go with it no matter how many we
actually have on the air?
OR
Do we want to do the 5A and have a floater that can fill in when
someone stops.
Please Vote....
