GOTA station call:
While I do enjoy the face that my call could be used, there are a few issues I see with this:
1, length WX4RAY does just roll off my tongue, I¡¯m used to it and I like it. Not so much for others to say it though
2, 4 land call, during the WI QSO party, I notice no one wanted to come back to me because I don¡¯t have a common to WI call sign, those calling with beam antennas will try to point towards VA instead of WI
3, length, applying the same principles as you did with the club call, my call sign is way to weighted to use for a GOTA station
4, license, I hold a general license and can only use general frequencies, if I can use an extra call, I can have more access to frequencies to make calls for those that do want to Get On The Air

Hi Y'all,
???? OK, Now we got what Class we will be in for Field Day figured out.
Well started, again only two have replied.Please make a decision.
???? Now we need to decide on what call to use. The GOTA Station is simple,
He can use his own call or any other that he wants to use.
It just has to be a different call from the call the rest of us will be using.
The Yellow Thunder Club has of course in the past always used their club call
WB9FDZ
Whiskey Bravo Nine Field
Day
Zombies
<FDZombie-50.jpg>
They even had T-Shirts Made up for it!
<fdz.jpg>
While Funny and Cutezy, Guys that actually tried using it on the air during Field Day,
while it was fun, it was a total disaster! Using non standard un-official phonetics like the zombie one
Instead of the official ones, Whiskey Bravo nine Fox-trot Delta Zulu,
Like 50% of the calls were people asking for repeats! All this repeating consumed up a LOT of time.
Often the amount of time used to get the call understood,
was so long they could have made one or two more contacts!
In addition, I have been trying my hardest to keep this group Field Day as "CLUB" neutral as possible!
It's already leaning towards Yellow Thunder because of using their Field Day Site this year.
So Using their call is pushing it even further. I don't feel that is fair to the other clubs.
We want a call that is neutral to all the clubs. And good for Contesting.? What makes a call good for Contesting?
Look at these records. These are the winners over several years. What is common of ALL of them?
<scores.jpg>
It's the Calls! They are all SHORT! None are longer than 4 digits. Some only 3!
There are many reasons for this but the two most important is Speed!?
And less digits to get across accurately. You have to admit the Call Papa three alfa
is must faster to say than Whiskey Bravo nine Fox-trot Delta Zulu.
And being only 3 digits long less to get copied. Or copied wrong!
I propose we use the DZC Call W9ET.? Say this out loud,,,
Whiskey Bravo nine Fox-trot Delta Zulu
Whiskey nine echo tango.
Speed! FDZ has a Call weight of 80
ET is 41 it's roughly half the size!
Yes W9ET is a "Club" Call, but not in the usual way. It is a special interest club call.
A Contesting Club Call.? DZC = "Driftless Zone Contesters"
It is a special interest Contest club. it is NOT affiliated with any club. Like Baraboo, Richland Center,
Watertown, Mauston etc.
BUT there are members of those clubs that ARE members of DZC.
DZC has members from about 20 different general interest clubs. From All of Wisconsin,
1/2 of Minnesota,
3/4 of Iowa,
1/2 of Illinois,
1/2 of Michigan.
It's FAST on Phone, it's also FAST on CW!
So I propose we use W9ET for the call.
What do we want to use for the groups name? Don't want Yellow thunder or any other clubs name again.
Driftless Area Field Day?
Anyone got a good name?
Thoughts on Call and name?
