IRCddb to Raspberry Pi
You must run the D-RATS repeater (server) on the R_Pi. Tick the "Accept Incoming Connections" box and click the On button. The default port number is 9000. The D-RATS client should now be able to connect to 192.168.0.4

Best reflectors for d-rats
Hi all, I'm using d-rats via RF to connect to various reflectors, but so far I have not seen much activity. Does anybody have any suggestions for the best reflectors or repeaters to connect to for d-rats? I'm mostly interested in testing it for emcomm purposes. Thanks! Facundo Sent from Blue Mail

id880 serial usb 3
I have a new computer with win 8.1 usb to serial to the 2.5mm data jack and ptt doesn't always work using d-rats. I can't find any turn on scenario that works. Once it worked the time it was on and after closing and restarting it, sometime worked once but most times it doesn't work. Any ideas appreciated, 73 de rolan w3fdk

DRATS AUTHENTICATION ON A RPI 6
I WOULD LIKE TO PUT AN AUTHENTICATION REQUIREMENT ON MY DRATS RUNNING ON MY RPI. PROBLEM IS I AM NOT WELL VERSED YET IN PI, AND I AM CONFUSED BY THE STATEMENT: On Linux or MacOS it will go in the directory from which you spawn the repeater IN THE RUNNING YOUR OWN RATFLECTOR INFORMATION. COULD/WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW AND WHERE TO PUT THE FILE ONCE I DEVELOP IT? I AM NEW TO LINUX/PI AND STRUGGLING EAGERLY TO LEARN. THANKS IN ADVANCE AL

fldigi news 2
A new version of fldigi was released on December 25th, followed hours later by a bug fix. That prompted me to some more experimenting with D-RATS and fldigi. I already have D-RATS and fldigi set up on my desktop computer. (Add a network connection to D-RATS and set the address to 127.0.0.1, port 7322.) I set up a laptop computer with the same arrangement. I used two audio cables to cross-connect the line-in and line-out on the two computers. I selected BPSK250 as the modem in fldigi on both computers (this is about the same speed as 300 baud packet). I was able to send D-RATS text and messages between the two computers using fldigi as the transport medium. I have not, as yet, tried this on radios, but I am confident that I will, in the future, have it working. After I reached that point, I reasoned that the D-RATS repeater could also make a network connection to fldigi. Well, it works. I was able to make messages coming into a ratflector be re-transmitted by fldigi. Did I mention I have a TNC running on a Ratflector too? I recently acquired a MFJ1270X, which is MFJ's version of the TNC-X. It's virtually plug and play. If you order the optional cable, it plugs into packet ready radios. There is only a transmit level control to adjust in the TNC. Mine is the USB version and it was recognized as a serial port device. Go to D-RATS preferences and add a connection to a KISS TNC. Plug in the COM port number and set the speed to 9600. Set the speed jumper in the TNC to match. This is where it gets complicated... There is a bug in the D-RATS software that puts the wrong data in the config file when connecting a TNC. You must manually edit the file to correct it. It is a hidden file, so you must first instruct you computer to show hidden files. Now search for d-rats.config for D-RATS, or repeater.config, for the repeater. Open it with a text editor. Look for a line like this: True,<type 'type'>:COM3:0,9600,False,False,TNC Delete the <type 'type'> and insert tnc, like this: True,tnc:COM3:0,9600,True,False,TNC Save the file and re-start D-RATS. I hope this will encourage D-RATS users to try it on radios, as it was intended. Patrick N3TSZ

Getting Problems Fixed 4
Is it safe to assume that any problems we find in D-RATS should be considered features as there is no one fixing them? Do we have all the source so someone could fix them if they had the enthusiasm and wherewithal? Bob AF9W Looking for a good digital solution for EMCOMM - and still searching.

Getting Problems Fixed
Ralph, I believe you can only use the speaker jack for cloning or programming. The data jack on the side can be used for both programming and low-speed data. Unfortunately, the jacks are two different sizes. If I am wrong, someone please correct me. 73, Tom KC9ONY

D-Rats w/IC-80 GPS Data CABLE 2
Can the USB interface which plugs into the top of the IC-80 be used as the computer to radio link on the IC-80 or is the serial cable the only method? Not able to get transmit data through the USB interface which plugs into the top of the IC-80. Ralph Barbakoff WA9LKZ

Need Help With Icom ID-51 2
I was trying to chat with a station today through a repeater. He was direct into the repeater, I was linked via a DV Mega hotspot. On my radio, I had GPS turned disabled and DV Data Tx set to auto. On the DV Mega, I had it configured to enable D-Rats. The other station was an Icom 880. I could receive his text just fine. But on his end, he could only see my text when the D-Rats program 'raw text' box was selected. The text was highlighted in yellow and was preceded and followed by gibberish and something like [EOB]. So we're getting close...but not quite there. Can someone give advice please?

Has anyone thought about using the Drats chat function on HF. This could mean a small signal low dutycyle communication in a burst mode that shouldn't bother anyone if you limited the text. Dan

Fusion radios 3
Has anyone tried D-RATS on a Fusion radio? The operators guide is vague on connecting a computer to the radio. The only references to it I can find on the internet say "it should work". The manual mentions menu 9APRS -> 17 COMPORT to set it up for external data. If anyone has anymore information about this, I would like to know about it. Thanks, Patrick (N3TSZ)

D-Rats ID-51A and RT Systems Cable
For anyone else out there pulling their hair out trying to make D-Rats key the transmitter, I have (finally) had some success with this hardware: ID-51A (original flavor), RTS-05 cable (orange), Windows 8.1 netbook, latest build of D-Rats. As otherwise noted, you have to carefully shut off all the GPS stuff on the radio. Apparently, GPS data and other data are trying to use the same limited slot in DV mode. There are charts on where to shut off GPS (at least 3 settings need to be "off"). Also I saw a note that "power save" has to be "off". Mine was "Auto-short". I turned it off and it works---but not 100% sure this was really necessary. Now for the new part----using the HT and the RT systems cable, I was very frustrated that the radio seemed to transmit once (when D-Rats connected), then never again. Eventually, I found that for some reason the Comm port was being disconnected on the netbook. I tried a few different scenarios (different computer, different cable, etc.) and always the same thing using the ID-51. Until I decided to reduce the transmit power on the radio. Only on Mid or High power on the ID-51 did it continue to disconnect the comm port. Lower power worked fine. What I believe is happening is the HT, using the rubber duck, is pump RF into the RT Systems cable and causing the comm port to shut down (I could unplug and re-plug the cable and it would work again---for one transmission). I am going to put a couple ferrite beads on the RT Systems cable and report back how that works (if it actually does anything positive). Moving the radio or antenna away from the computer seems to help. Reducing the transmit power definitely helps. I notice the $70 dollar iCom cable has 2 ferrite beads included. I suspect iCom may have seen the same thing. Just some info if anyone like me was trying to make a "go-kit" with the HT and a netbook or laptop and D-Rats. 73, KC3BLF
