DRATS AUTHENTICATION ON A RPI

I WOULD LIKE TO PUT AN AUTHENTICATION REQUIREMENT ON MY DRATS RUNNING ON MY RPI. PROBLEM IS I AM NOT WELL VERSED YET IN PI, AND I AM CONFUSED BY THE STATEMENT: On Linux or MacOS it will go in the directory from which you spawn the repeater IN THE RUNNING YOUR OWN RATFLECTOR INFORMATION. COULD/WOULD SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW AND WHERE TO PUT THE FILE ONCE I DEVELOP IT? I AM NEW TO LINUX/PI AND STRUGGLING EAGERLY?TO LEARN.

THANKS IN ADVANCE

AL

Al,
I took a look at my installation and there is a button on the D-Rats Repeater Proxy config screen that says EDIT .

that is the way to edit your file, just put in your info and save.

Does that help ?

Cody,

Yes, that is correct there is an edit button but in my RPI installation every time I click it the program shuts down. I do not believe that to be correct but I do not know where to go to fix it, going to try to upgrade to a daily build version today.

I am not sure about being able to initiate the authentication from the edit button as the "Running your own Ratflector" instructions do state:

"On Windows this file should go in C:\Program Files\D-RATS\users.txt unless you installed D-RATS to an alternate location.? On Linux or MacOS it will go in the directory from which you spawn the repeater."

And it is that last sentence that has me guessing.

Thanks

Al

Al,
Ok, i see your confusion,
I am not sure why the program is crashing on the PI so here is where the file is in Linux

when you login in you should be in your home directory

if you type: cd .d-rats
(change directory to .d-rats)

it is a hidden directory. In linux when you create a directory that starts with a . (period) is will remain hidden.

so once in there, you shoud be able to edit the users.txt file as explained in the docs.

use nano or some other text editor. you can use? /home/cody/.d-rats/user.txt as the full path if you wish.
substitute your username for mine of course.

Maybe this will help get you where you need to be.

I have not used it yet, but was thinking if trying out d-rats for local comms.. what kind of setup do you use for your emergency comms ?

Thanks
Cody

Thank you all for your help, once you pointed me I the right direction I was good to go! Authentication works just fine, all is good here in New Mexico!

Thanks again!

Cody,

We have been using MIXW and MT63 for digital on 2M, however now we have our DSTAR repeaters all up and running,2M, 440, and 1.2Ghz so we will start using those more as time and skills permit. We have used DRATS in our monthly meetings and training over our ID51's. Now with a web ratflector we have that ability as well. We have run DRATS on simplex around here for over a year with great success. Thanks for your input, I am quite proud of the results!

Thanks again,

Al
