Re: Strange memory errors on AES

Jeremy Weatherford

Program and web files are stored in flash memory, this is also what
gets compacted periodically. It's what the processor uses instead of
a disk.

SIMPL+ programs use RAM as working space while they are running, and
this is what they are running out of. The AES has a limited amount of
memory compared to the PRO2 and other "big" processors, and it's even
worse because of the enormous chunk of Adagio SIMPL+ that must be
loaded. I would probably start by seeing if some of the modules you
are using can be stripped down, or the buffer sizes reduced in the
SIMPL+ modules.

I suspect it might be a problem with failure to compact properly on
load.  The AES has about 3.5MB of memory, my program is about 2.3MB
and I have one iPad (650KB) and one iPhone (225K) on there, only one
of each type allowed.  The problem seems to occur after reloading the
iPad/iPhone apps a few times then reloading the program.

One time I tried manually compacting when the problem started and I
got an error to the effect it couldn't allocate a pool for compaction
or something like that (can't recall exactly).

To further muddy the waters, I can't seem to recreate the error
anywhere but in this one installation.  I tried swapping out the AES
itself, but it happens on the new one as well.  All firmware and
software is the latest.

Re: Crestron Mobile Pro G - Designing in Landscape

Have you discovered the Anchoring option in VTPro?

Open the Properties tab and select an item on the page, you will see an
anchoring option in the properties tab that allows you to deal with the
rotation issues to some extent.

On a recent foray into it myself I found that setting a sub page: Left=No,
Top=No, Right=Yes, Bottom=Yes FixedWidth=Yes, FixedHeight=Yes

AND having a sub page 748px wide X 518px high set 400px from top and 10px
from left *just* about centers the sub page in portrait mode BUT it slides
it to the right edge of the page, to me preferable as they can use their
thumb to operate cursor controls close to the edge of the page.

I placed a main nav strip horizontally at the top of the page and a footer
at the bottom but there is still a big gap between top nav and the sub page
in portrait, however in landscape you wind up with a big gap to the left and
right of the sub page.

I hate it but what else can you do?

While it has its own set of shortcomings I still think CommandFusion slays
Crestrons answer to the iPad!

Seriously, no develop in landscape mode? No horizontal scrolling lists?
C'mon Crestron!

I could be dead wrong about this but, I'm not so sure about 30 iPads on a
single processor with CommandFusion.

Seeing as how the EISC limit is around 30 or so, having 30 S+ direct sockets
may prove fallible if too many are in use at one time, it would be a real
suckfest to run into this problem late in the project.

I have a job here that has a vast amount of iPads (around 30) but the caveat
to it is a majority of them will be wall mounted. This means they need to be
designed in landscape format.

Now I've already long ago given up on designing a layout that can be both
portrait and landscape friendly opting for mostly portrait designs as they
are native to VTPro. The problem I am having is designing this particular
job solely in landscape format. I am locking the panels in landscape mode,
but I am running into issues in the design of not knowing how to scale my
images since we can't discretely build in landscape format in VTPro.

I've been wracking my brain today trying to figure out how to do this but
can't come up with any good solutions other than to just create a button,
load it, and see how it looks. I am using blueprints as well, but they just
don't turn out correctly since I can't run them at the desired ratios.

Does anyone have any tips/pointers for designs they have done in landscape
mode? Anything helps at this point.

Thanks for your answer. But how do I setup the switching itself? Where do I
tell SB which TV is on which output and which source is on which input? I
may be blind, but I can't find that! When I programmed Prodigy, there was a
switching tab that I used. I can't find anything similar with Adagio.

FWIW, I did (or didn't) do that on the first one or two e-mails. I included links to several different HDMI matrices in the third or fourth e-mail, as an act of semi-desperation and to make sure that they had an example of what an HDMI matrix switcher is/does. I was actually going to included a couple of wikipedia links instead, but thought that that might not come off well. A tad pedantic, maybe? ;)

Re: iPad issues

The actual VTPro-E file is about 23,600KB. There are dynamic graphics for weather icons (x4), shade animations (x2), and iPod album art (x2) but none of them are ever updated simultaneously. The button that always freezes the app up is the iPod button which is only tied to logic that shows the iPod subpage, routes audio, and shows a note if there is no device docked or the database is loading/failed etc. Nothin has been changed with this button since it previously worked for about 3 days. What should I look for graphic wise that would cause the app to lock up?

Thanks,

So this is the first iPad I've used and until today everything was going
great. I've been working with this control system for a couple days and
everything was fine. I was only making minor changes and little things that
were missed so nothing really changed. Now Mobile Pro G seems to keep
locking up.

Sometimes as soon as the flash page loads its already locked and nothing
happens. The time at the top of the screen doesnt change or anything. When
it doesnt lock up from the start, it always locks up when you press the 3rd
item on a list control from the main page. Once that is pressed it becomes
unresponsive, server one disconnects, than a minute or two later it connects
to server 2. The panel than flashes with the right sub pages and immedietly
goes to "Updating". You can see the updates sent from the processor in the
debugger and 2 seconds later server 2 disconnects...the panel gets stuck on
"Updating" and eventually connects to server 1 a few minutes later back and
forth until you quit the app and restart the program.

I tried deleting the list control and making a new one. It worked for a few
minutes after the new upload but now the same problem is occuring. Any help
would be appreciated! It's extremely frustrating because it was working fine
the last few days and now that I'm 99% done it's all going to hell.

Thanks,
Jacob

Do all graphics on subpages, ie crestrons demo projects, set to join 0 if you like. Then set the subpages not to scale on rotation. then none of your buttons will either.

I just have to toss my hat in the ring for commandfusion. There are a few posts here about how not that the ipad has a native touchpanel symbol the Crestron solution may be less processor demanding, but it looks like the commandfusion solution will almost always have more "iPadness" to it. Swiping, scrolling, gestures, etc.

I am told that 5 iPads in a LARGE project concurrently connected to the system may be the limit of CommandFusion, but I am not really sure. Then of course there is always the new found speed and horsepower of the the MC3 that might help in accommodating more iPads.

Hi Marc,

We have that device in here in Australia where it's called WattsClever.

I wrote a module that parses the stream using nothing but SIMPL.
Gather on 47d ("/"). Use an STOA for each XML tag that you want to read then convert the ASCII characters to analogs using your choice of method as taught in Intermediate class... use an ARAM to store the analogs for further processing.

The only complication is the yearly value which has more than 5 digits (bigger than a 16-bit analog).

Enjoy - maybe it'll help to get people to turn the oven off when they don't need it... ;-)

I'm parsing the "realtime" data just fine. I even put together a cool little graph using the Google Charts module from XXXXX.

Problem is, now I gather the string and search for the tags i'm looking for. I suspect that won't work with the very long xml for daily, weekly and monthly data.

I'm not willing to parse and store all the data. Far from that, I'm only willing to retrieve one or two days of hourly history, one or two weeks, and one of two months. The idea is to generate history charts for one hour, one day, one week, one month. Well, maybe one year too.

For that I should read data as it flows through my module. How would you gurus do that ?

Now I've already long ago given up on designing a layout that can be both portrait and landscape friendly opting for mostly portrait designs as they are native to VTPro. The problem I am having is designing this particular job solely in landscape format. I am locking the panels in landscape mode, but I am running into issues in the design of not knowing how to scale my images since we can't discretely build in landscape format in VTPro.

I've been wracking my brain today trying to figure out how to do this but can't come up with any good solutions other than to just create a button, load it, and see how it looks. I am using blueprints as well, but they just don't turn out correctly since I can't run them at the desired ratios.

Does anyone have any tips/pointers for designs they have done in landscape mode? Anything helps at this point.
